Penn State Master Gardeners is a non-profit organization of volunteers who received horticultural training from Penn State University's College of Agriculture Cooperative Extension. The mission is to educate the general public in sustainable gardening practices.

Boo! Don’t be afraid, just don’t eat these mushrooms! They are jack-o’-lantern mushrooms (Omphalotus olearius). Jack-o’-lanterns are poisonous.
This mushroom has earned the name Jack-O-Lantern not only because it has an orange color similar to pumpkins and because it usually appears during Halloween, but also due to its special bioluminescence properties. Don’t confuse them with chanterelle mushrooms. Their underside matters: jack-o’-lanterns have thin, sharp gills running down the stem, while chanterelles have blunt, vein-like ridges.

Did you ever hike the trails at Smedley Park? At our Fall Fest Delaware County Master Gardener and Master watershed Steward, Steven Hinds, and Delaware County Master Gardener, Anita-Ann Murphy, led a nature walk on the Smedley Park trails. During the route they turned our attention to many of the native, as well as invasive species.

Penn State Extension is seeking a Master Gardener Coordinator/Extension
Educator to oversee the general function and activities of the Master Gardener
Volunteer program in Delaware County.

This position serves as the main communication link between the county Extension
Office and the Master Gardener volunteers. Qualified candidates must have strong
organizational and communication skills.
