Georgia ranks 28th in the nation in fourth-grade reading achievement in the 2026 KIDS COUNT Data Book, with 70% of fourth graders not proficient in reading. This is a troubling trend because children who reach fourth grade without being able to read proficiently are more likely to drop out of high school, reducing their earnings potential and chances for success while increasing their risk for long-term health issues.

Community partnerships make a difference! 💙🎓

Albany Technical College Adult Education is grateful to receive a generous $1,500 donation from Terrell County Family Connection to help support our GED students by covering testing fees.

This donation is especially meaningful because some students, despite being academically prepared and ready to earn their credentials, face financial barriers that make it difficult to pay for the GED test. By helping cover these costs, Terrell County Family Connection is removing obstacles and creating opportunities for students to achieve their educational and career goals.

Pictured are Amanda Farley, Director of Terrell County Family Connection, and Kevin Pless, Adult Education Instructional Coordinator, who accepted the donation on behalf of Albany Technical College Adult Education.

We sincerely appreciate Terrell County Family Connection for their continued support, generosity, and commitment to our students. Strong community partnerships like this help transform lives and strengthen our communities.

Thank you for investing in the success of Adult Education students! ✨

I am pleased to announce the winners of this year’s Book Report Project!

This project invites all 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students from Cooper Carver Elementary School, Terrell Middle School, and Terrell Academy to submit a book report on their favorite book. With the help of our contact representatives at each school, one outstanding report per grade level was selected.

Each winner received a $100 Books-A-Million gift card and a $100 Visa gift card. We are proud to recognize the following students on great book reports:

Justice Williams – Cooper Carver (4th Grade)
Dax Satterfield – Terrell Academy (4th Grade)
Layla Vanover – Cooper Carver (5th Grade)
Kate Massey – Terrell Academy (5th Grade)
Ayden Howard – Terrell Middle School (6th Grade)
Allee Clare Heleski – Terrell Academy (6th Grade)
These six winning reports were then submitted to a panel of judges, who selected one Grand Prize winner based on overall excellence.

We are excited to announce that this year’s Grand Prize winner is Allee Clare Heleski! Allee Clare will receive a smart TV and a new iPad with a keyboard cover.

Congratulations to all of our winners! We are so proud of your hard work and dedication, and we are grateful to our school partners for helping make this project such a success.
