June is a busy month for Prescribed Burn Associations in Georgia, with lots of local opportunities to work on and discuss fire management skills with your neighbors. First, the Savannah River PBA is hosting a comprehensive prescribed fire and smoke management training this Thursday (6/4) near Augusta, GA. This session is still open for those looking to improve their technical expertise on prescribed fire and smoke interactions. Next, the North Georgia Prescribed Fire Council Meeting this weekend (6/6) will feature PBAs as a central topic of discussion, offering a platform for members to share best practices and network; tickets are still available for interested participants. Finally, the Southwest Georgia (SWGA) PBA has scheduled a classroom training session on June 26th in Camilla, focused on practical application and equipment maintenance.

Our PBA had a fantastic night burn in SWGA. The burn took place to mitigate fire intensity and high winds. Quite a few PBA members were in attendance as well as some guest viewers from the Prescribed Fire Training Center (PFTC). PFTC had a burn crew close by and it worked out that they could come check it out! Unique weather conditions and good timing allowed this to happen, resulting in some very satisfied young Longleaf pine

Lessons From the Firebreak: A collaborative conversation from landowners, to landowners.

The SWGA-PBA invites you to our next meeting in Camilla, GA, June 24th!

Aside from usual business and lunch, we will have an updated cost share presentation from two local Quail Forever in Georgia resources, Ethan Howell and Nathan Eldridge. Ethan is a Precision Ag and Conservation Specialist, and Nathan is a Senior Private Lands Biologist.

After their presentations, we will host a facilitated discussion on lessons our burners have learned throughout the years. We will have prepared questions, as well as time for audience members to bring us their "burning" questions. Participation is not required, feel free to attend to just listen in!
