We're not asking girls to see past their differences. We're inviting them to see the beauty, history, and humanity within them.💜 That belief was at the heart of our 2026 Healing Illinois initiative, Race Reimagined, which brought girls together to explore race, identity, culture, and belonging through honest conversations, creative workshops, and hands-on media experiences.

And those conversations turned into something tangible! 🎤 Through community events, journalism, photography, interviews, and podcasting, our Fellows brought their learning to life, creating a special edition of Love Girls Magazine, a three-part podcast series, and youth-led workshops that invited our community to hear their perspectives, share their own, and join the conversation.

80 girls engaged, 1,000 magazines produced, and thousands more reached through storytelling that encouraged understanding, celebrated identity, and invited people to see the world through the eyes of women and girls.

We're SO proud that this work is now a finalist for TWO prestigious Anthem Awards! 🥹🏆 But the real celebration is for the girls who made it possible, the stories they shared, and the conversations they helped spark.

I haven’t stopped thinking about "If the River Were a Woman" since watching it last week. You can watch the full Her Voice Media documentary embedded in the article.

What started as a review became a much bigger reflection on women, nature, power, voice, consent and change.

Water does not have to become harder to become powerful. It only has to become collective.

Maybe women are like that, too.

ANDDDDDD CUT! THAT’S A WRAP! 🎬🍿 We premiered our mini-documentary, If the River Were a Woman, last night at The Last Picture House! It was our favorite kind of night: good stories, good people, and girls at the center of it all.

We’re so grateful for our community’s support and enthusiasm around the film. So proud of our girls, our team, and everyone who helped bring this project to life! 🎥

What if the Mississippi River were a woman?

🌊 If the River Were a Woman is a youth-led documentary from Her Voice Media exploring the history, beauty, challenges, and future of the Mississippi River through the eyes of young women in the Quad Cities.

Told in three parts, Her Ancestry. Her Body. Her Voice., the film asks us to consider what the river has given us, what she has endured, and what it looks like to care for her well.

Presented by Her Voice Media with support from the Quad Cities Community Foundation QC River Connections grant.

What happens to the items we recycle? ♻️ Facility workers carefully sort what stays and gets a new life, and what goes. Our fellows visited the Scott Area Recycling Center to learn about the process.
