Apparently, our cats have been making quite an impression on the local news lately. And by “making an impression,” we mean convincing a reporter and a meteorologist to take them home 😂🐾

Both Riley, a reporter from Our Quad Cities News, and Matthew, a meteorologist from WQAD, recently adopted cats from the Humane Society of Scott County over the last few weeks, and we’re so happy to see these familiar faces become part of our adoption family!

Riley and Matthew, thank you both for choosing to adopt and giving these cats homes of their own. We hope your new roommates let you at least finish your segments before demanding attention 🤣

You might have seen our ridiculous video of four people dressed as rodents dancing around at the shelter. Or maybe you were one of the people who drove by and honked while wondering what we were doing 😂

While it made for a funny social media opportunity to promote our 16 rats available for adoption, it actually started as a goodbye to one of our amazing Animal Protection Services Officers. Officer Flores has received an exciting opportunity to move to a big city, and we are going to miss her dearly but are so excited for her ❤️

Please help us say goodbye to our wonderful team member and wish her the best on her next adventure!

“Hi. Excuse me. Still here. Very good boy. Just wanted to make sure you saw me.” 👋❤️

Pup Tart is practically waving to get your attention, and we’re hoping this is the photo that makes someone stop scrolling.

He arrived at our shelter on August 19, 2026. That’s 66 days of waiting for someone to choose him. Our staff love him. Our volunteers love him. He’s a really great dog who has simply been overlooked, and we wish everyone could see what we see in him.

He hasn’t stood out to his future family yet, but he absolutely deserves to!

Pup Tart is 3 years old, neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped already. He can be selective about his dog friends and tends to prefer females, so we’ll help arrange a meet-and-greet if you have another dog at home.

Come meet him at the Humane Society of Scott County. He’s got his paw up for the position of your new best friend, and he has a whole team of staff and volunteers happy to provide references 📝

Max would like to report that Reina has received approximately three seconds of attention, and he feels that’s plenty 😂

Every time our staff member goes to pet Reina, Max slides right back in. Sharing a home? Absolutely. Sharing the pets? He’s still working on that.

Max and Reina are both 6 years old and have spent their whole lives together. They’re a bonded pair looking for a home together, and they’ve lived well with cats, too! Max is neutered, Reina is spayed, both are over 100lbs and both are already vaccinated and microchipped.

Come meet them at the Humane Society of Scott County! Two dogs, two hands… we feel like this should work, but someone may need to explain the arrangement to Max 🐾

Freddie has been waiting for a family since June. In the meantime, he’d like to clarify something: he is absolutely a lap dog, and he will not be taking questions about his size (all 65lbs 😂)

This 3-year-old sweetheart moved into foster care at the end of September, and we’ve gotten to know a whole new side of him. The shy dog who needed time to feel safe has been showing off his playful personality, his love for people, and his ability to make himself comfortable directly on top of someone.

Freddie loves tug toys, a little fetch, long walks, and being included. When his foster family hosted their son’s cross-country team for dinner, Freddie joined the gathering with supervision and did wonderfully. He loved the teenagers, and the feeling was very mutual.

He has plenty of puppy-like energy, but he also enjoys settling onto a comfy bed near his people. Sometimes an evening burst of zoomies calls for a few extra minutes of chasing a toy before he’s ready to relax. His ideal family will enjoy playtime and walks as much as they enjoy having an oversized cuddle buddy.

Freddie is also learning the everyday skills that make a good roommate. He’s quickly catching on to waiting at doors and becoming more comfortable having his muddy paws wiped. He can get mouthy during play like a puppy, so his fosters are helping him practice reaching for toys instead of hands. He responds well to redirection and will benefit from a family willing to continue that patient, consistent guidance.

He has done well with his foster family’s dog, including on walks together. Calmer or older dogs will be his best match, and a meet-and-greet will help us find the right fit.

Freddie is neutered and microchipped. He may still need a little time to settle into a new home, but his foster family has shown us just how much affection and personality are waiting on the other side of that adjustment.

After months of being overlooked, Freddie deserves someone who sees what his fosters saw: a really good boy with so much love to give!

Freddie can be met with anytime we are open, just prepare to surrender some lap space 😉

Sugar Kane has a blanket. Now he just needs someone to tuck him in 🛌

You might remember him from his 15 minutes of fame on Living Local or showing off his sprinkle-covered donut collar. Today, he’s bundled up with a little pout that makes it very difficult to keep walking past him. Apparently, even local celebrities need a blankie.

At just 8 months old, Sugar Kane has so much life ahead of him and we’d love for him to spend it with a family of his own. He’s good with other dogs, neutered, vaccinated, and ready for his next chapter.

We do our best to give our dogs comfort while they’re here. Soft blankets, time together, and people who care about them. But we want so much more for Sugar Kane: a familiar voice calling his name, a favorite spot to curl up, and someone who gets to know all the little things that make him him.

Somewhere out there is a person who will take a photo like this and caption it “my dog.” We can’t wait for that day.

The Hy-Vee Kids Club celebrated one year of bringing kids together, and they made sure our shelter dogs got to share in the fun! 🐶🎁

For the club’s first anniversary celebration on October 3, kids enjoyed a special visit from Deputy K9 Echo of the Scott County Sheriff's Office and helped put together treat bags for dogs waiting for homes!

They then delivered those goodies to our shelter, where our team handed them out to the pups for some extra fun and enrichment. A little something to sniff, explore, and enjoy can make a shelter dog’s day brighter!

Thank you to the kids, families, Deputy K9 Echo and Hy-Vee team for turning this milestone into an opportunity to help animals in our community. We love seeing young animal lovers learn just how much their kindness matters. Happy first anniversary, Kids Club! ❤️

They already have a best friend. Now they just need someone who will choose them both ❤️

Kane and Kapone are still waiting for a home together after their owner passed away. We can’t give them their person back, but we can help them find a family where they can stay side by side.

At 18 pounds, Kane is the little guy. At 60 pounds, Kapone takes up a bit more room. And when you see them cuddled up together, you understand why keeping these two together matters so much.

We know adopting two dogs is a bigger commitment, and it won’t be the right fit for everyone. But somewhere out there is a person with room for both of them, and we’re hoping this post reaches them.

Both boys are neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to head home. They also have been around children before in their previous home. Their one requirement? They’re going together.

Thank you to The Grey Muzzle Organization for making it possible to provide excellent veterinary care for both and a dental for Kane as part of the Pathway Home grant to make it easier for them to find a home of their own and give adopters peace of mind when adopting a senior…or in this case, 2 seniors!

Doug was SUPER excited to check out the new donated blankets 🫪🤣

Did you know we can take blanket donations anytime?! We are ALWAYS in need of blankets, sheets, towels, and pillow cases for pets here at the shelter!

Today, for example, we’re taking care of 370 animals inside our building. There are an additional 119 pets in foster care, too.

Every single one of them needs something soft to lay on, snuggle up to, and bring them comfort. However, that means around 370 blankets also get dirty each day. Usually, we can wash them, but we also regularly have to toss blankets due to excessive wear, soiling, etc.

That means we need a constant supply of more cozy items coming in! Items can be used, stained, etc. we just ask that they are clean 🫶 If you’re cleaning out your linen closet, we hope you’ll think of us next time ☺️ We can accept comforters, fleece blankets, full size towels, hand towels, sheets of any size, pillow cases, and more! We do not generally need any pillows.

We also can always use volunteers to help wash and dry laundry too (at the shelter, at your home, or at the laundromat!) If you’re interested in that, let us know and we will get you in touch with our volunteer coordinator!
