🇺🇸 Five Years Later — We Remember Abbey Gate. 🇺🇸

Today marks five years since the August 26, 2021 attack at Abbey Gate in Kabul, Afghanistan, where 13 American service members were killed while carrying out the evacuation mission at Hamid Karzai International Airport.

They were Marines, a Soldier, and a Sailor. They were sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, spouses, parents, friends, and teammates.

They were 13 Americans who did not come home.

Today, we pause to remember each of them and the courage they displayed in their final mission. We also hold close the Gold Star families whose lives were forever changed that day.

Five years may have passed, but their names, their stories, and their sacrifices must never fade with time.

At SEAL Family Legacy, we believe remembrance requires more than marking an anniversary. It means continuing to say their names, sharing their stories, and standing beside the families who carry their legacies every single day.

Today, we remember the 13 heroes of Abbey Gate and all those whose lives were forever impacted by August 26, 2021.

May we never forget what they gave.

🇺🇸 16 Years Later, We Remember CJ. 🇺🇸

Yesterday marked 16 years since United States Marine Corps Corporal Christopher John “CJ” Boyd made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Sixteen years.

For most of us, that number marks the passing of time. For a Gold Star family, it represents 16 years of birthdays, holidays, milestones, conversations, and ordinary moments lived without someone they love.

This year, SEAL Family Legacy has had the incredible honor of getting to know the Boyd family, sharing CJ’s story, and helping ensure that his life is remembered not simply for how he died, but for how he lived, who he loved, and the legacy he left behind.

CJ was more than a Marine.

He was a son. A husband. A father. A friend. And to those who loved him, his absence is felt far beyond an anniversary on a calendar.

To the Boyd family: thank you for trusting us with CJ’s story and allowing our SFL family to walk alongside yours. It is a privilege we do not take lightly.

And to CJ—we will continue to say your name. We will continue to tell your story. We will continue to stand beside the family you left behind.

16 years later, you are still remembered. ❤️🤍💙

🇺🇸 Our friends at Memories of Honor are building something incredibly special, and they need the help of Gold Star families to make it even better.

The new Memories of Honor Hero Memorial is being created as a place where our nation’s fallen heroes can be remembered, their stories preserved, and their legacies carried forward for generations to come.

Before the memorial officially launches, Memories of Honor is asking families to help beta test the site — searching for their hero, exploring their memorial page, and helping identify anything that can be improved.

To the Gold Star families who follow SEAL Family Legacy: we encourage you to take a few minutes to participate. Search for your loved one. Explore their page. If they aren’t there yet, help ensure their name and story become part of this memorial.

We are incredibly proud to call Memories of Honor our friends and to support an organization that understands something we hold deeply at SFL:

🇺🇸 NOW ACCEPTING FAMILY ENDOWMENT NOMINATIONS 🇺🇸

SEAL Family Legacy is currently seeking Gold Star Families to be nominated for our Family Endowment Program.

Each year, our Family Endowment Program provides $20,000 to two Gold Star Families with children 18 years old or younger:

⭐ One Navy SEAL Gold Star Family
⭐ One Gold Star Family from any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, with preference given to a family as local to the Quad Cities as possible.

We know there are families whose stories may not reach us unless someone helps make the connection, and that’s where you come in.

If you know a Gold Star Family who may qualify, we encourage you to nominate them or help connect them with SEAL Family Legacy.

These families have already given more than most of us could ever imagine. Our Family Endowment is one way we can stand beside them, support their children, and ensure the legacy of their fallen hero continues to be carried forward.

🇺🇸🎡 And just like that… another Mississippi Valley Fair week is in the books! ❤️🤍💙

As we pack everything up, we’re taking a moment to reflect on just how grateful we are.

Year after year, the Mississippi Valley Fair and the Quad Cities community continue to welcome SEAL Family Legacy with open arms. Whether you stopped by our booth, grabbed some swag, asked about our programs, shared a story with us, or simply took a few minutes to learn about the Gold Star families we serve—thank you.

The love and support this community has shown SFL over the years has helped us grow our mission and, most importantly, continue showing up for military Gold Star families with children.

We are especially grateful for the opportunity each year to share the stories of our nation’s fallen heroes with such a large audience. Every time a name is spoken and a story is shared, another person carries a piece of that hero’s legacy forward.

To the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, thank you for continuing to give us a place and a platform to share our mission. And to the Quad Cities, thank you for believing in what we do and standing beside these families year after year.

Our feet may be tired after fair week 😂, but our hearts are incredibly full.

🕷️❤️💙 We had a pretty SUPER visitor stop by our booth at the Mississippi Valley Fair! 🇺🇸

Even Spider-Man knows that with great power comes great responsibility… and that includes stopping by to support the children of our nation’s heroes! 🕸️😉

We loved having him swing by the SEAL Family Legacy booth and show some love for our mission of serving military Gold Star families with children.

It’s moments like these that make fair week so much fun. We get to meet new faces, reconnect with longtime supporters, share the stories of the incredible families we serve—and occasionally hang out with a superhero. 🦸‍♂️
