🇺🇸 Flags Are Flying Across Darien for Flag Day Weekend! 🇺🇸

In honor of Flag Day on June 14, members of the Darien Lions Club spent time placing American flags throughout our community for the weekend.

This annual tradition is one of the ways we celebrate our nation’s flag and show our appreciation for the freedoms and opportunities it represents. As you travel around Darien this weekend, take a moment to enjoy the sight of Old Glory proudly waving and reflect on the values that unite us as Americans.

The Darien Lions Club is honored to help bring a little extra red, white, and blue to our community. Thank you to everyone who supports our Flag Program and helps make this patriotic display possible.

🇺🇸 Look for the flags this weekend, snap a photo, and share your patriotic spirit with us!

♻️🌎 Making a Difference, One Pound at a Time! 🌎♻️

The Darien Lions Club continues to make a positive impact on our community and environment! Thanks to the support of local residents and businesses, we recently recycled 384.19 pounds of thin film plastics and approximately 80 pounds of glass, keeping these materials out of our landfills and helping protect our beautiful coastal community.

Want to help? It’s easy!

🛍️ Thin Film Plastic Collection Boxes are located at Coastal Market. Please bring clean, dry thin film plastics such as grocery bags, bread bags, newspaper sleeves, bubble wrap, and similar items.

🍾 Glass Recycling can be dropped off at the Darien Lions Clubhouse. Please make sure all glass bottles and jars are empty and rinsed clean before recycling.

Every bag and bottle recycled helps reduce waste and shows what our community can accomplish when we work together.

A huge thank you to everyone who participates in these recycling efforts. Your commitment is making a real difference!

🦁 All Hands on Deck! Help Us Celebrate America’s 250th on the Waterfront!
McIntosh County, it’s time to make history right here at home! The City of Darien and the Darien Lions Club are joining forces to host the spectacular “Darien, Georgia 250th: Educate & Celebrate” event. We are establishing an incredible community-wide celebration for the 250th American Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and we need our community and every single member's help to pull it off.

We will be welcoming local citizens and holiday visitors alike for an unforgettable afternoon of patriotism, service, and fun.

📅 Event Details
Date: July 4th, 2026

Time: 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM EST

Location: Darien Waterfront Park

🎉 Event Highlights & Volunteer Areas
To make this massive event a success, we need volunteers to help manage and run our key attractions:

🍔 Free Food & Beverage Station: The Lions Club is providing free hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, watermelon, water, and soft drinks to the community. We need grill masters, food prep teams, and servers!

🎶 Main Stage & Music: Keep the energy high as we host two live bands (currently being finalized) and a patriotic music sing-along led by Scott Barrett.

🎈 Children’s Entertainment Zone: Help us coordinate and then supervise the bouncy houses, coordinate face painting, and create a Flag Painting contest (supplies will be needed).

🤝 How You Can Help
Whether you can spare two hours or stay for the whole afternoon, your hands-on service is what makes Lionism so powerful. We need help with setup (starting before 1 PM), food service, kids' activities, and breakdown/cleanup after 5 PM.

Let’s show our community what the Darien Lions Club is all about. Please reach out to committee leadership this week to claim your volunteer shift and slot!

"Great — now let’s change the world (and celebrate our history) together!"
