Since May 1999, God’s Pit Crew has delivered hope, healing, and restoration to hurting people in times of crisis. After a devastating tornado ripped through Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in May 1999, Randy and Terri Johnson answered the calling upon their lives by saying YES to the calling God laid upon their hearts.

The Johnsons and a few friends used borrowed trucks and trailers to deliver three loa

ds of supplies to the disaster-ravaged area. God’s Pit Crew is a nonprofit, crisis response team whose mission is “With God’s Help and Direction, to bring Hope, Healing, and Restoration to hurting people in times of crisis.”

Our Immediate Response Team has responded to hundreds of disasters, by clearing fallen trees, moving storm debris, tarping roofs, and mucking out flood-damaged homes. Our Rebuilding Team has rebuilt several dozen homes, churches, radio stations, that have been destroyed by natural disasters. Each year, we distribute several thousand Blessing Buckets, which contain essential relief items, to people who have lost everything. Here in our own region, we serve our neighbors each day through our local distribution program which provides other churches and organizations with essential food and drink items that are distributed to local people who need some extra assistance. Our crew members recently had the privilege of delivering specially filled Emergency Buckets to Danville Public Schools, providing multiple locations with resources to help support teachers and their students during an emergency.

Each bucket is carefully packed with supplies that could become vital during an extended lockdown or shelter-in-place situation – including gauze pads, water for hydration, honey for low blood sugar support, self-defense spray, a shower curtain that could provide privacy if a makeshift restroom becomes necessary, and many more items.

The Emergency Buckets are about equipping teachers with essential supplies to care for and protect their students. It means so much to our God's Pit Crew team to be able to serve the community we call home and stand alongside the teachers who pour so much into our children every day.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to help our local schools remain prepared. ❤️

Across the region, families are facing the overwhelming question: Will there be enough food to put on the table?

At the same time, the local organizations serving them are facing empty shelves and fewer donations. Through our Regional Distribution program, God’s Pit Crew helps provide essential food supplies to churches, schools, first responder groups, nonprofits, and other organizations serving people in need.

This September, you can help us restock those shelves and keep hope moving.

Here are three ways you can help:

𝗦𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘: God's Pit Crew and South Boston Speedway are partnering to provide local residents with a 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 food box filled with 25lbs of food essentials.

Each family will receive one food box and one case of drinks (both families must be represented if sharing a vehicle – no more than two families per vehicle please).

Behind every response with our crews serving on the front lines, there are people making sure we’re cared for along the way.

Kelly Fabre with Crew Missions has been a longtime blessing to God’s Pit Crew, traveling to meet our volunteer teams during times of disaster response and serving up incredible meals that keep our crew fueled, encouraged, and ready to serve.

His ministry is a powerful reminder that disaster relief takes more than the people swinging hammers, running chainsaws, and distributing supplies. It takes people willing to step in, serve behind the scenes, and care for those who are caring for others.

We’re grateful for Crew Missions and how they continually show up for our crew and help us keep going when the need is great. ❤️

After flooding impacted communities across Indiana, God’s Pit Crew has been blessed to send tractor-trailer loads of relief supplies to both ends of the impacted areas – Fishers and Connersville – where local churches have stepped up to serve their neighbors.

One of our partnering pastors shared a powerful story from the week: A 79-year-old woman living alone lost power and is not expected to have it restored for at least a couple of weeks. The generator delivered to her is helping keep her insulin safe.

This is why we respond. ❤️

We are grateful for the churches partnering with us to get these supplies directly into their communities. They have been fired up to serve as the hands and feet of Jesus, distributing helpful supplies, meeting immediate needs, and moving hope forward each step of the way.

And we are blessed to be part of it.

There are so many heartbreaking accounts of the devastating impact of disasters this year and in months past. We’re honored to be able to share the testimony of a family in Georgia who lost everything in wildfires earlier this year.

But their story didn’t end with loss. Through God’s provision and the hands and hearts of God’s Pit Crew supporters, this family received a brand-new home — and a brand-new start.

What the enemy meant for devastation, God is using for restoration.

This fall, God's Pit Crew is heading to Nebo, North Carolina – and we need you on the team!

From September 27–October 10, volunteers will come together to build two new homes for the Hollifield and Honeycutt families, who are continuing to rebuild after Hurricane Helene.

You don’t have to be a construction expert to make a difference. Whether you’re swinging a hammer, helping with cleanup, moving materials, or simply jumping in wherever you’re needed, there’s a place for you. All you need is a willing heart, a servant’s spirit, and a desire to serve.

Come spend a few days working alongside an incredible crew and help bring two families one step closer to coming home. ❤️
