Official Facebook of God's Pit Crew, a non-profit disaster response organization. Shortly after that first response, God’s Pit Crew was born.

Since May 1999, God’s Pit Crew has delivered hope, healing, and restoration to hurting people in times of crisis. After a devastating tornado ripped through Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in May 1999, Randy and Terri Johnson answered the calling upon their lives by saying YES to the calling God laid upon their hearts.
 The Johnsons and a few friends used borrowed trucks and trailers to deliver three loads of supplies to the disaster-ravaged area. God’s Pit Crew is a nonprofit, crisis response team whose mission is “With God’s Help and Direction, to bring Hope, Healing, and Restoration to hurting people in times of crisis.”

Our Immediate Response Team has responded to hundreds of disasters, by clearing fallen trees, moving storm debris, tarping roofs, and mucking out flood-damaged homes. Our Rebuilding Team has rebuilt several dozen homes, churches, radio stations, that have been destroyed by natural disasters. Each year, we distribute several thousand Blessing Buckets, which contain essential relief items, to people who have lost everything. Here in our own region, we serve our neighbors each day through our local distribution program which provides other churches and organizations with essential food and drink items that are distributed to local people who need some extra assistance. “I never imagined that this would be what it is."

When Hurricane Helene swept through Western North Carolina in 2024, the Honeycutts lost more than their home. Years of hard work, memories, and the retirement they had spent a lifetime building were suddenly washed away. But now, a new chapter is beginning.

In Nebo, North Carolina, Jamie and Shannon have been blessed with a beautiful, fully furnished home – the second home completed in the new "Community of Hope," a 15-acre property where eight families will have the opportunity to begin again.

Overwhelmed with gratitude, Jamie shared, “I may not know each of you, but you feel like family. I thank you for everything that you do.”

And perhaps his most powerful words came as he reflected on what this gift truly means:

“It will give me back my retirement that washed down the river, because it was gone and I had no idea how I was ever gonna get it back.”

That's what your generosity makes possible. Not simply replacing what was lost, but helping restore the future a family thought was gone forever.

The kind of price tag no family should have to face alone. We're talking massive trees, unimaginable damage, and cleanup jobs that could easily cost tens of thousands of dollars. That's what Hurricane Isaias left behind across Florida's Panhandle.

Here's something we love about this crew: they see a mountain of work and an opportunity to love people through it.

As God’s Pit Crew volunteers head into another week of serving in Florida, they are taking on the kind of tree work that could financially overwhelm a family already trying to recover from a disaster.

No invoices, no labor charges, no financial burden passed along to the homeowner. Just people showing up for people, chainsaws running, and the love of Jesus being shared.

And behind every hour of work is someone like you who helps make it possible. ❤️‍🩹

Nearly 1,000 Blessing Buckets packed by high school students with a heart to serve others. Students from Crossroads Christian School spent the day volunteering at God's Pit Crew headquarters.

Because of their hard work, nearly 1,000 families facing the aftermath of disaster will receive a Blessing Bucket filled with supplies that can be difficult to find after a storm like food, clean water, hygiene products, and so much more. These are families who may have lost their homes, vehicles, and nearly everything familiar to them. And thanks to these students, they will receive help during some of the most difficult days of their lives.

These students packed buckets in Danville, Virginia, but the impact of their compassion will travel hundreds of miles to reach people they've never even met.

"The eyes I see through today are as if I see a brand new world... the way He meant it to be."

In the middle of serving communities impacted by Hurricane Isaias in Florida, our crew experienced a moment that reminded us of the greatest mission we could ever be a part of...

John – or 'Fluffy' to his friends and a member of the God's Pit Crew volunteer team – made the beautiful decision to be baptized, surrounded by fellow crew members who have walked alongside him, encouraged him, and shared the love of Jesus with him.

Fluffy joined our Immediate Response team in February, looking for an opportunity to serve and a fresh start. He arrived with a willingness to work, a heart searching for something more, and just days of sobriety behind him. What he found was a community of people ready to walk alongside him.

Through deployments, friendships, personal battles, and even a serious health diagnosis, he continued finding strength in the faith and fellowship of his fellow volunteers. And while he was helping families recover from disaster, God was writing an incredible story of hope and restoration in his own life.

"I want to thank each of my team members of God's Pit Crew for being a part of my changing life. Each of you in your own way; through your stories, your mentorship, some of your own testimonies; have helped guide me to the person He chose me to become – a servant of the children of God. I am so proud to call each of you my brother and sister." ❤️

Our mission has always been about so much more than clearing debris, repairing homes, or delivering relief supplies. It's about sharing the hope, love, and life-changing joy of our Savior. And sometimes, while we're serving others, God is doing something extraordinary within our own crew.

Because of your support, God's Pit Crew is blessed to do more than provide a house at no cost to families who have experienced unimaginable disaster and loss. We get to help create a home.

That means filling each space with furnishings, thoughtful details, and special touches chosen with the family in mind. Reminders that this home was prepared specifically for them and for the new memories they will make there.

We’re often asked why we go the extra step to fully furnish the homes we build. The answer is simple: we want to be good stewards of the calling God has entrusted to this ministry. If He gives us the opportunity to serve a family in such a meaningful season, we want to serve them well and use that opportunity to share His love in every way we can.

Hope grows stronger when we come together. Every time God's Pit Crew responds to a hurting community, we are reminded of the incredible blessing it is to serve alongside other organizations, ministries, and helping hands who share one common purpose: to lift up those who have been knocked down.

Together, we can reach more families, clear more destruction, and help more communities begin the long road to recovery. But the greatest impact goes far beyond the work of our hands. It's found in the prayers spoken over a hurting homeowner, the encouragement shared in a moment of uncertainty, and the love of Jesus shining through every act of service.

Sometimes what someone needs most isn't just help clearing the wreckage in front of them. It's the reminder that hope is still alive, that they are deeply loved, and that God is with them through it all.

We are grateful for every organization, volunteer, and donor helping us carry His love into the places that need it most. 🙏

This was just a normal neighborhood street. Someone’s front yard, driveway, and the place this family called home. Then, in what felt like an instant, everything changed.

This is only a glimpse of the heartbreaking destruction left behind by Hurricane Isaias in Florida. What once felt familiar and safe has become overwhelming damage, with some families now facing tens of thousands of dollars in cleanup and repairs.

Every day, God's Pit Crew volunteers are working in neighborhoods just like this one, helping families begin the difficult process of putting the pieces back together. From removing fallen trees to clearing debris and storm damage, every bit of work our crews provide comes at absolutely no cost to those we serve.

We are incredibly blessed to be able to step into these difficult moments, offer helping hands, and share the hope and love of Jesus.

To everyone who has prayed, given, and supported this mission – thank you. Your generosity keeps our crews fueled, equipped, and ready to continue serving families facing some of their hardest days.
