Since May 1999, God’s Pit Crew has delivered hope, healing, and restoration to hurting people in times of crisis. After a devastating tornado ripped through Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in May 1999, Randy and Terri Johnson answered the calling upon their lives by saying YES to the calling God laid upon their hearts.
 The Johnsons and a few friends used borrowed trucks and trailers to deliver three loa

ds of supplies to the disaster-ravaged area. God’s Pit Crew is a nonprofit, crisis response team whose mission is “With God’s Help and Direction, to bring Hope, Healing, and Restoration to hurting people in times of crisis.”

Our Immediate Response Team has responded to hundreds of disasters, by clearing fallen trees, moving storm debris, tarping roofs, and mucking out flood-damaged homes. Our Rebuilding Team has rebuilt several dozen homes, churches, radio stations, that have been destroyed by natural disasters. Each year, we distribute several thousand Blessing Buckets, which contain essential relief items, to people who have lost everything. Here in our own region, we serve our neighbors each day through our local distribution program which provides other churches and organizations with essential food and drink items that are distributed to local people who need some extra assistance. Every other Thursday, pallets loaded with food, drinks, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, and other essential items are distributed to organizations across Southside Virginia and Piedmont North Carolina from God's Pit Crew's Regional Distribution team. Through these faithful partnerships, more than 15,000 individuals each month receive help and hope.

One of those individuals is Reynaldo of Eden, NC. Through Spray United Methodist Church’s Food Ministry which receives supplies from God’s Pit Crew, Reynaldo is able to help provide for his household of 10, including his children and grandchildren.

After suffering a heart attack and receiving a defibrillator implant, he has worked to make healthier choices and shared how much the food ministry means to him.

“I need protein to keep my immune system and body functioning well,” Reynaldo said. “I get a lot of protein from the food give-away.”

While God’s Pit Crew is often recognized for responding in the aftermath of hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, and other disasters, the ministry’s mission of serving others continues every single day through our Regional Distribution branch.

Hurricane season is here, and while forecasts may offer predictions, one thing remains certain – when disaster strikes, every second matters.

That’s why God's Pit Crew works year-round to stay prepared long before the first storm forms. Our teams continually maintain trucks, trailers, lifts, chainsaws, and heavy equipment so they can roll at a moment’s notice. Critical relief supplies are carefully inventoried, stocked, and ready to be loaded and delivered, helping ensure families and communities don’t have to wait when urgent needs arise.

Whether responding to hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, wildfires, or other crises, readiness is not something we begin when disaster hits, but it’s something we invest in every day.

This level of preparedness is only possible because of faithful supporters and dedicated volunteers. One of the most beautiful parts of serving others is the relationships that are formed along the way. ❤️

While building a new home for the Young family in Western North Carolina, God's Pit Crew volunteers were continually blessed by the kindness of the family's new neighbors – a couple who faithfully provided delicious meals, desserts, and warm encouragement throughout the project.

As an expression of sincere gratitude, members of the God’s Pit Crew volunteer team handcrafted this special bench, signing it with messages of love and appreciation before presenting it to the couple.

Thank you for showing such incredible generosity to our volunteers. The love of Christ was evident in every meal and each shared conversation.

The work of God's Pit Crew Immediate Response volunteers extends far beyond disaster zones.

While this crew is known for deploying across the country to serve communities impacted by disaster, they are equally committed to serving close to home. Grow Your Skills Week has provided a unique opportunity for volunteers to strengthen their skills through hands-on training while making a meaningful difference throughout Southside Virginia.

Volunteers spent the day at Diamond Fever Sportsplex in Ringgold, VA, removing dangerous and overhanging tree limbs to help create a safer and more welcoming environment for the teams, families, and community members who visit the ball field.

Equipped with industry-leading PPE and specialized equipment, our dedicated volunteers are able to train safely, work effectively, and provide the highest level of service to others in need. Every skill sharpened now helps prepare them to respond with excellence the next time disaster strikes.

This week at God's Pit Crew headquarters in Danville, VA, volunteers from across the country have come together for Grow Your Skills Week, a special hands-on training opportunity designed to equip volunteers with practical disaster response skills while making a meaningful impact in our surrounding Danville and Ringgold, VA, communities.

Throughout the week, volunteers are participating in specialized trainings that help them learn new skills, strengthen existing abilities, and prepare to serve more effectively during future relief efforts across the nation.

So far, the group has been hard at work in God's Pit Crew's Immediate Response training area learning proper flooded home muck out techniques, how to safely and correctly remove water-damaged drywall, and participating in climber training to enhance technical tree skills that are often needed following devastating storms.

The God's Pit Crew Building Team volunteers have been constantly at work serving disaster-displaced families, providing hope, healing, and a fresh start. Following Hurricane Helene, more than 50 homes and counting have been provided to families who lost so much, with additional homes currently in the works for survivors in other disaster-impacted communities.

But a home is more than four walls and a roof. Many of these families have lost everything – their beds, couches, kitchen tables, dishes, towels, and even the everyday items most of us use without a second thought. That’s why every home provided by God’s Pit Crew is fully furnished and stocked with essential household items, transforming an empty house into a place where families can rest, heal, and begin rebuilding their lives.

Big smiles and servant hearts from our incredible red-shirt volunteers spending their time at God's Pit Crew headquarters packing Blessing Buckets with critical relief supplies so urgent needs can be met at a moment’s notice. ❤️‍🩹

The Blessing Bucket ministry is one of God's Pit Crew's most personal expressions of providing restoration and healing for others, delivering hope directly into the hands of disaster survivors.

Each bucket is carefully packed with critical supplies, handwritten prayers, and practical items individuals and families need in the first days after losing everything.

Since God's Pit Crew's beginning in 1999, hundreds of thousands of Blessing Buckets have been distributed across the world to provide hope to hurting people experiencing some of their darkest moments.
