Fear of Flying Facts, week 2: those weird noises mid-flight. 🔊✈️

MYTH — "That thumping/whirring/clunking sound means something's broken." FACT — Most in-flight noises are completely normal: landing gear retracting, flaps adjusting for climb or descent, engines throttling back once the plane reaches cruising altitude. Pilots and flight crews are trained to notice anything that's actually unusual — which is precisely why routine sounds don't concern them.

Knowing what to expect is half the battle when it comes to feeling calmer in the air.

Following up on yesterday's turbulence myth: why is flying considered so safe in the first place? ✈️💙

Every commercial aircraft is designed with redundant systems — backups for critical instruments, multiple engines, and layers of maintenance checks before every single flight. Pilots also train extensively for scenarios most passengers will never encounter, using simulators that recreate emergencies so the response becomes second nature.

None of that removes the nerves some people feel before a flight — but it's a big part of why aviation is one of the most rigorously tested and regulated forms of travel there is.

Introducing a new weekly series: Fear of Flying Facts. 💙✈️

Every week, we're tackling one common worry about flying with the facts that actually explain it — because a little understanding goes a long way toward feeling calmer in the air.

First up: MYTH — "Turbulence means something's wrong with the plane." FACT — Turbulence is uncomfortable, but commercial aircraft are engineered and tested to handle far more stress than normal turbulence produces. Pilots train specifically to manage it, and it's one of the most over-rated fears in aviation.

**EVENT CANCELLATION**

We all know this is an unfortunate reality for anything aviation-related, but we have made the difficult decision to cancel this weekend’s event based on current forecasts. Friday arrivals are nearly out of the question and, while northern parts of our two courses are in decent shape for race day, weather and ceilings along the southern portions of the courses continued to worsen with each forecast.

We look to explore what options we may have moving forward, but realize that the race schedule is pretty well packed for the remainder of the year. That said, be on the lookout for updates and information regarding a rescheduling for 2027.

Again, thank you for your interest and overwhelming support – we look forward to enjoying this unique event together in the seasons ahead!
