Rescue Pink

Rescue Pink Working to empower mothers as they rescue their own daughters in India. This stems from disregarding the value of its women for centuries.

There are over 60 million missing girls in India (they were either aborted before birth, killed once born, died of neglect just because they were girls, trafficked, or given away in child marriage). Rescue Pink works to change this through rescue, prevention, and awareness. Rescue Pink’s vision is to create an India where a girl’s value is respected. We focus in rural India to rescue girls by plan

ting centers in strategic locations offering alternative options through our prevention models and by creating awareness. Rescue Pink has a commitment to keeping families together, with an emphasis on changing the mindset. The devaluing of women and girls in India has a dire ongoing affect, but many are desensitized to it. We work to create awareness through campaigns in urban, rural, and educational settings. Our prevention models include counseling services for at-risk girls and women under pressure, after school and life skills programs for girls, medical camps, nutrition to pregnant and lactating women and financial empowerment to moms including support groups and entrepreneur training. In just a few years Rescue Pink has grown to having 4 centers in 3 states, working with over 200 little girls and their families. Offering Pregnant and Lactating programs to over 225 mothers and their baby girls, and over 565 women with at risk little girls in our Entrepreneurship Programs. Our goal is to empower the moms of these at-risk little girls in a self-sustainable way, to help them rescue their own girls, keep families together, build courage in the moms to stand on her own two feet and show her value to the family. Then, together with Rescue Pink’s influence, we build confidence and empowerment into the little girls in order to create a sustainable change among the masses in the areas where we work.

Meet S. She was just 22 years old when she first walked through the doors of our O-Center.

She had 2 daughters and was pregnant with her third child. Her husband worked as a mason, and together they were struggling to provide for their growing family. After attending one of our community awareness programs with her aunt, S and her husband came to our center looking for help.

That visit changed everything.

S joined our Pregnant & Lactating Women’s Program, receiving health checkups, nutritional support, and guidance throughout her pregnancy. She went on to deliver a healthy baby.

As we got to know the family, we encouraged S to enroll her two daughters in our Early Childhood Program. At first, she and her husband were hesitant. But slowly, that trust grew.

Their daughters began attending our preschool, receiving early childhood education and nutritious meals, milk, and eggs each day. S watched them grow healthier, happier, and more confident.

With her children being cared for, S was ready to take the next step. She joined our Women’s Entrepreneurship Program, completed business training, and received a loan to start a small tiffin center.

Today, S runs a successful breakfast business. Her income helps cover household expenses, support her children, and she is repaying her loan on time.

But Rescue Pink didn’t just step into one part of S’s life. We were there during her pregnancy. We walked alongside her as we invested in her two daughters. And when she was ready to build a livelihood of her own, we were there for that too.

Today, S is financially independent, her children are healthy and in school, and a family that once worried about meeting their daily needs is building a more secure future.

That is what your support makes possible. Not temporary help, but the chance for an entire family to move forward. Thank you Rescue Pink family!

A child can’t protect a right they don’t know they have.

That’s why this month, we taught around 480 students at schools near our four centers about their rights, personal safety, and protection from abuse and exploitation.

After lots of thoughtful questions and being such good listeners, each student received a pencil pouch from Rescue Pink.

Home visits are an important part of what we do.

They give our staff the opportunity to check in with families and talk about everything from a girl’s education and health, to challenges at home and ways we can continue to support her.

But these visits are also about relationships. Our staff members are trusted voices in their communities, and their influence extends far beyond our centers. The conversations, encouragement, and guidance they offer can make a lasting difference.

Definitely a month worth celebrating! Thank you for everything, Rescue Pink family!

Meet B.

When we first met B, she was four months pregnant and her family was struggling to make ends meet. Her husband sold onions from an auto-rickshaw, but there was rarely enough income to cover their daily needs.

B had a Bachelor of Commerce degree and once dreamed of preparing for a bank job. She had asked her parents to help her attend coaching classes. Instead, they arranged for her marriage.

After having her first daughter, B slowly began to believe that her education and dreams were behind her. She even started accompanying her husband on the streets selling onions to try to help support their family.

Through Rescue Pink’s Pregnant & Lactating Women’s Program, B received nutritional support and regular follow-ups throughout her pregnancy. As we got to know her, we also saw something else: a woman who still had so much she wanted to do.

We encouraged B to join our Women’s Entrepreneurship Program. After weeks of business and financial training, she was asked if she could manage a business of her own.

Her answer?

“I can do it.”

And she did.

B started selling fish, prawns, and crabs throughout her community, traveling from street to street and building her own customer base. Her business is now bringing in a steady income and helping her family become more financially secure.

But perhaps the biggest change is in B herself.

She went from believing her dreams were over, to believing in what she could do again.

Today, B is building her business, working toward financial independence, and creating a different future for her family.

Sometimes empowerment starts with something as simple as having someone believe in you until you’re ready to believe in yourself again.

Women should never have to earn the right to be safe.

Being out after dark. Saying no. Speaking up. Giving someone bad news. Simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time…none of these things justify violence against a woman.

We teach our women both the mindset and physical skills of self-defense so they can stay alert, recognize danger, defend themselves, and create an opportunity to get to safety.

We can’t always control how someone else behaves. But we can help our women know they are worth protecting…and capable of protecting themselves. 💪
