Democrats 101 is on the road!

We were invited to attend the Arizona Democratic Party's annual Committee Meeting. We're making friends and having great conversations about how the Democratic Creed provides Democrats with the values we can root our policies in. If a policy cannot be tied directly to our values as laid out in the Democratic Creed and the statements that all people are created equal and that we believe in Freedom, Justice, and Opportunity for all, we should rethink the policy.

OSSOFF: “FREEDOM IS RARE”

All people are created equal, with no natural right to rule over others. So, how is it that we have governments? Well, we freely consent to being governed by asking others to govern us. But they do so under the law. It’s an employment contract, and just as we can choose who governs us, we can remove and replace them if they fail us.

Equality leads inexorably to freedom, to justice under the law, to the opportunity to thrive, to democracy through our consent to be governed.

This is the Democratic Creed - all of its principles tie together: Equality. Freedom, Justice, and Opportunity. Democracy. Not separate ideas, but ideas that depend on one another.

in 1875, Mary McLeod Bethune was born. An educator, civil rights leader and presidential adviser, Bethune believed education was essential to expanding opportunity and advancing equality. She founded the Daytona Literary and Industrial Training School for Negro Girls, which later became Bethune-Cookman University.

As the founder of the National Council of Negro Women and an adviser to President Franklin D. Roosevelt, she helped shape national policy while advocating for racial justice, educational access and economic opportunity.

Her legacy reminds us that expanding access to education is key to building a more just and equitable future.

The words of the Declaration of Independence move me still. Hear the words - without commentary, interpretation, or drama, as colonists heard them in 1776, facing their future with hope, determination, and resolve. Without knowing what lay ahead for them or their families. But willing to try.

Throwback Thursday!

Today's throwback is from December 5th, 2022, "Ohio and Beyond".

We've come a long way since then, with over 30 Ohio counties having adopted the Democratic Creed, but still have a long way to go. Won't you join us on our journey by pledging to support the Democratic Creed?

We recently completed another exciting tour through Ohio: meetings, presentations, and a lot of old-fashioned sitting and talking. These ideas, using values and vision to resurrect our identity as a political party, are taking hold among grassroots activists in counties both large and small.
