What’s Sharon been up to?
“My journey with CASYM began during some of my most formative years, from 1987 to 1994, a time when I was still learning who I was and who I hoped to become. Living in Brooklyn, New York, and working in the medical field as a Family and Women’s Health Technician, I can trace many of the values that guide my life today back to those early years within the organization. CASYM was not simply an activity or program, it was a grounding force that quietly shaped my character, purpose, and sense of self.
When I reflect on my time in CASYM, I recognize that its greatest impact was not found in performances or recognition, but in the enduring lessons that revealed themselves over time. CASYM taught me perseverance, how to keep moving forward when the path felt uncertain, how to chase dreams even when progress was slow, and how to remain deeply grateful for the people who stood by me through life’s ups and downs. The fact that many of those relationships remain part of my life today is a powerful testament to the sense of community and loyalty CASYM instilled in all of us.
The discipline and structure I learned during those years became anchors in my adult life. In both my personal and professional journey, especially within the demanding medical field, I have relied on the focus, accountability, and commitment that CASYM helped cultivate. I learned that discipline is not about limitation, but about dedication—showing up consistently, honoring responsibility, and trusting the process even when results are not immediate.
Equally transformative was being immersed in cultural heritage through the arts. Through dance and steel pan, I did more than perform, I connected to my roots. CASYM gave me a sense of pride in my culture and taught me the importance of honoring where I come from. That connection continues to influence my worldview, reminding me that identity is something to be protected and celebrated, and that the arts have the power to unify, heal, and ground us in moments of uncertainty.
Professionally, following a path into the medical field felt like a calling deeply influenced by my mother, who dedicated many years of her life to this work. CASYM reinforced the values of service, resilience, and responsibility that are essential in healthcare. Yet, my most meaningful personal achievement has been watching my daughter grow into a medical professional herself, embracing the same dedication, discipline, and purpose. In that moment, I saw the full circle of legacy, knowing that the lessons instilled in me through CASYM did not end with one generation.
To the young members of CASYM today, my advice is to stay true to who you are, especially in a world full of distractions and pressures. Remember that the greatest challenges are often internal, and that success requires self-belief, effort, and consistency. CASYM is more than an organization, it is a space where identity is shaped, culture is honored, and futures are quietly formed. Long after the music fades and the rehearsals end, the lessons remain, guiding you forward.
In addition to my work in the medical field, I am also the owner of Kreasions Ultd, a creative business that allows me to express another side of who I am. Kreasions Ultd specializes in custom event items for parties, meetings, and businesses, as well as personalized tumblers and gift items. This venture reflects the balance CASYM helped instill in me, the understanding that discipline and creativity can coexist, and that our passions can evolve while still honoring where we began. In many ways, this business is another extension of the foundation CASYM provided: creativity rooted in culture, purpose, and intentional craftsmanship.”
