October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

Battered women come from all walks of life. She may be your mother, sister, friend, coworker, or neighbor.

What you can do to help another person that is in a domestic violence relationship.

1. Listen and believe that the abuse hurts-whether physical, sexual, or emotional.

2. Understand that victims sometimes mistakenly blame themselves.

3. Support the person, not the violence

4. Encourage the victim to ask for help

5. Keep responsibility where it belongs with the perpetrator not the victim

Domestic Violence is a crime against society, as are similar acts of violence between strangers.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IS EVERYBODY'S BUSINESS!!!

NO MORE SILENCE!!! WHAT ARE WE DOING AS A COMMUNITY TO STOP DOMESTIC VIOLENCE?

I GOT FLOWERS TODAY
(Dedicated To All Battered Women)

I got flowers today!

It wasn't my birthday or any other special day;
We had our first argument last night;
And he said a lot of cruel things that really hurt;
I know that he is sorry and he didn't mean to say the things he said;
Because he sent me flowers today.

I got flowers today!

It wasn't our anniversary or any other special day,
Last night he threw me into a wall and then started choking me,
It seemed like a nightmare, but you wake up from nightmares to find they aren't real,
I woke up this morning sore and bruised all over-but I know he must be sorry,
Because he sent me flowers today.

I got flowers today!

And it wasn't Valentine's Day or any other special day,
Last night he beat me and threaten to kill me,
Make-up and long sleeves didn't hide the cuts and bruise this time,
I couldn't go to work today because I didn't want anyone to know-but I know he's sorry
Because he sent me flowers today.

I got flowers today!

And it wasn't Mother's Day or any other special day,
Last night he beat me again, and it was much worse than all of the other times,
If I leave him, what will I do? How will I take care of the kids? What about money?
I'm afraid of him, but I'm too scared and dependent to leave him! But he must be sorry,
Because he sent me flowers today.

I got flowers today...

Today was a special day---it was the day of my funeral
Last night he finally killed me---I was beaten to death,
If only I would have gathered the courage and strength to leave him,
The women's shelter could have helped me, but I didn't ask for their help,
So I got flowers today...for the last time.

PLEASE DON'T LET THIS BE YOUR LAST TIME GETTING FLOWERS!!!

A PRAYER FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SURVIVORS

Dear God,

Today, I pray for every survivor of domestic violence, the woman who is hurting behind a smile, the one who is afraid to speak, the one who is trying to find the strength to leave, and the one who is rebuilding her life after leaving.

Remind her that what happened to her was not her fault.
Remind her that she is not what someone did to her.
Remind her that she is worthy of love that does not hurt, control, threaten, manipulate, or destroy her.

Give her strength when she feels weak.
Give her courage when fear tells her to stay silent.
Give her wisdom as she makes difficult decisions.
Give her peace when her mind is overwhelmed.
Give her protection as she walks toward safety.

For the survivor who has already left, help her heal from the wounds people cannot see. Give her permission to take her time, to grieve what she lost, and to rediscover who she is.

For the survivor who is still there, surround her with safe people who will listen without judgment and help her find a path toward safety.

For the survivor who keeps wondering, โ€œWill I ever be happy again?โ€
Let her know that her story is not over.

May she find her voice again.
May she find her confidence again.
May she learn to trust herself again.
May she look in the mirror one day and see not what was done to her, but the strength of the woman who survived it.

And when she feels like giving up, remind her:

You are still here.
You are still worthy.
You are still deserving of peace.
You are still deserving of love.
You are still deserving of a life free from violence.

Your past does not have the final say over your future.

Keep going, beautiful survivor.
Your life is worth fighting for.
Your peace is worth protecting.
Your voice matters.
Your story matters.

May healing find you.
May safety surround you.
May hope rise within you.

Amen. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿฆ‹๐Ÿ’œ

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

This month, we pause to honor and remember the lives lost to domestic violence, while also lifting up those who continue to suffer in silence.

Domestic violence can happen to anyone. Behind closed doors, many are facing fear, control, abuse, and uncertainty. Thatโ€™s why awareness matters. Speaking up matters. Supporting survivors matters.

Letโ€™s stand together this month to raise awareness, break the silence, educate our communities, and be a voice for change.

To every survivor: You are not alone. Your voice matters. Your life matters. Your story matters. ๐Ÿ’œ

Together, we can create communities where love is safe, respect is expected, and violence is never accepted.
