Cody Stephens Go Big or Go Home Memorial Foundation

Cody Stephens Go Big or Go Home Memorial Foundation At 6’9″ and weighing 289 lbs, he seemed to be in perfect health, with no indication he had a fatal heart problem.

We partner with schools to implement heart screening programs with electrocardiogram as a part of pre-participation physicals, and raise awareness that Sudden Cardiac Arrest is preventable. On May 6, 2012, Cody Stephens was a few weeks from graduating from Crosby High School, and looking forward to showing his pig, steer and lamb at the Crosby Fair and Rodeo in June. He was also excited to be headed to Tarleton State University on a football scholarship, and working to stay in good physical condition to be prepared for college football practices. On that Sunday afternoon, Cody kicked back in his dad’s recliner, said he was tired and dozed off for a nap. He never woke up but died in his sleep, from Sudden Cardiac Arrest. His family had never heard of SCA and had no idea that young, seemingly healthy children were at risk with relatively few or no warning signs. This foundation was created to share Cody’s story with others, to raise awareness of this silent killer and help prevent other families from experiencing the loss and heartache of losing a child to SCA.

October is Sudden Cardiac Awareness Month - a reminder that heart conditions often go undetected until it's too late.

At the Cody Stephens Foundation, we're fighting to change that. With your support, we provide life-saving ECG screenings to students across Texas, especially in underserved communities.

This August, we reached a milestone that once felt almost impossible: 200,000 young hearts screened.

That’s 200,000 kids, teens and young adults who have had the opportunity to receive a simple heart screening that could help identify an undetected heart condition before tragedy strikes.

What started with one family, one story and one mission to honor Cody has grown into 200,000 screenings — and counting.

We could never have reached this number without the schools, families, volunteers, medical professionals, donors, sponsors and communities who continue to believe in this mission.

200,000 screened. But we’re not done.
There are still more hearts to check. More families to reach. And more lives to save.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping us Go Big or Go Home. ❤️

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our Alahna Rojas's beloved father, Steve Kessler. Alahna is our director of screening.

During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family as they navigate this profound loss. Family is at the core of everything we stand for, and we grieve alongside her.

We ask our community to keep her lifted in prayer, surround her with love, and respect her privacy as she takes time to be with those closest to her.

With deepest sympathy and compassion,
The Family of the Cody Stephens Foundation.
