Here is a letter in part that I sent to Senator Amy Klobuchar referring to widespread financial crimes effecting our residents.
As Congress debates crypto and market structure legislation, they have a real opportunity to modernize our financial system—but it must be done responsibly.
More Minnesotans, including families and seniors, are using digital assets to save and invest. That growing interest has also opened the door to scams, fraud, and financial crime that put hard-earned savings at risk.
Any crypto legislation must include basic, time-tested investor protections like registration, transparency, and strong anti-fraud safeguards. Without clear rules, bad actors will exploit loopholes—and everyday Americans will pay the price.
As Sheriff of Crow Wing County, I’ve seen firsthand the financial devastation that this has on our very own citizens, protecting Minnesotans comes first. Congress should do the same.

Unlock Your Potential with the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program!

Are you a current Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) participant or public housing resident looking to increase your income and build long-term financial independence? The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program is here to help you achieve your goals!

What is FSS? It's a voluntary, five-year program that partners with you to provide coaching, support, and resources to overcome barriers to employment and financial stability.

How it Works: As you increase your earned income through employment, the FSS program helps you save. A portion of the increased rent you pay goes into a special escrow savings account held by the HRA for you. Upon successful completion of the program, you receive the funds in that account—often totaling thousands of dollars—to use for whatever you need, such as a down payment on a home, starting a business, or furthering your education.

Support Along the Way: You'll work one-on-one with an FSS coordinator who will help you create a personalized plan, connect you with local services (like job training, education, and childcare), and provide ongoing guidance.

Take Control of Your Financial Future!

If you're ready to take the next step towards self-sufficiency, we encourage you to learn more about the FSS program.

Need help with rent? Discover the Bring It Home Program! 🏠✨

High rent burdens shouldn't stand in the way of stable, safe housing. Through the statewide Bring It Home Rental Assistance Program, eligible low-income households can receive vital support to help make market-rate rent manageable.

Who is eligible?

Minnesota residents with an annual household income at or below 50% of the Area Median Income (AMI).

Households currently paying more than 30% of their income toward rent or experiencing housing instability.

Note: Priority is given to households earning under 30% AMI and those with children ages 18 and under.

Participants choose their own qualifying rental units, typically paying 30% to 40% of their adjusted income toward housing, while rental assistance covers the remaining balance.
