Today we observe Juneteenth, marking June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas learned they were free—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Juneteenth is a reminder that freedom, equality, and justice matter every day, not just in history books.

As Scouts, we reflect, learn, and strive to treat all people with respect and dignity.

On this , let's learn more about the first known Eagle Scout who was black/African American and paved the way for many other Black and African American Scouts in Scouting America.

Hamilton Bradley:

Bradley is believed to be the first Black Eagle Scout in America, whose court of honor was held on December 19, 1919. He was one of two Scouts selected to represent New York at the Eastern States Exposition in 1920, and after turning 18, he became an assistant Scoutmaster.

Bradley's Eagle Scout court of honor was held at the Rome Free Academy, according to the Rome Daily Sentinel.

After turning 18, Bradley became an assistant scoutmaster for Troop 2 in Rome, demonstrating his continued involvement and leadership in Scouting, according to a report from scouting history website.

Before the discovery of Hamilton Bradley's achievement, Harry Cooper of Missouri was thought to be the first Black Eagle Scout, having earned the award in September 1920.

This morning at 9:30 AM, Troop 75 participated in our annual Flag Placement event at Fairmount Cemetery in Newark, placing flags at the final resting places of veterans and fallen heroes in remembrance of their service and sacrifice. 🇺🇸

Our Scouts also proudly took part in a wreath presentation alongside members of the JROTC, honoring those who served our country with dignity and respect.

This meaningful event is a valued tradition for our Troop each year and included fascinating historical information shared by organizer Chris Sands, whose knowledge and dedication help bring local and military history to life.

We are proud of our Scouts for their service, respect, and commitment to remembering those who gave so much for our freedoms.

Another great weekend for Troop 75! Our Scouts enjoyed an exciting May camping trip and shooting sports weekend at Camp Winnebago, where they had the opportunity to participate in shotgun and rifle shooting while learning the importance of focus, discipline, and above all, safety.

A huge thank you to Scoutmaster Hall and Assistant Scoutmasters Meier and Hidalgo for serving as Shooting Range Masters and helping make this experience both safe and memorable for our Scouts. We appreciate the time, training, and dedication our leaders give to create opportunities like this for our troop.

Way to go, Troop 75! Thank you to all the leaders, volunteers, and families who continue to support our Scouts on these adventures. ⛺🎯

Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible moms, grandmothers, stepmothers, guardians, and mother figures of Troop 75!

Thank you for the rides, camp prep, last-minute uniform washes, merit badge encouragement, volunteer hours, snack runs, emotional support, and the countless ways you help our Scouts grow into strong young leaders. Your impact is seen in every campfire, service project, rank advancement, and act of kindness.
