📢 IMPORTANT CPT CODE UPDATE FOR SLPs

Beginning January 1, 2027, CPT code 92507 will be replaced by 10 new time-based treatment codes for speech-language pathology services.

⚠️ Important: This does NOT mean every payer will implement the new codes in the same way on January 1. Medicaid, commercial insurance, Medicare Advantage, TRICARE, and other payers will establish their own implementation, coverage, billing, and payment policies.

Key Points:
• 92507 remains in effect through December 31, 2026.
• The new codes address five clinical areas and will be time-based.
• Final Medicare payment rates are still pending.
• CMS has proposed a pediatric GSLPP code; it is not final, and ASHA opposes the proposal.
• Additional payer-specific guidance is still forthcoming.

🔎 NJSHA will continue monitoring implementation statewide and nationally and will keep members informed as verified updates become available.

📩 Received an official payer communication about the 2027 changes? Please forward it to [email protected] to help us track implementation.

🚨 Take Action: Help Shape the Future of Medicare Coverage for SLPs & Audiologists

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released its proposed 2027 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule, which includes changes that could significantly impact speech-language pathology and audiology services beginning January 1, 2027.

For SLPs, key concerns include:
✔️ A new Medicare-only pediatric billing code that overlaps with the new CPT code family for 2027.
✔️ The exclusion of the new SLP treatment codes from the Medicare Telehealth Services List, potentially limiting patient access to telehealth services.
✔️ A payment impact analysis that does not clearly identify the effects on speech-language pathology services.

Now is the time to make your voice heard. SLP and AuD professionals to sign the appropriate petition asking CMS to address these concerns before the rule is finalized.

🗓️ Deadline: September 10

Sign the petitions:
🗣️ SLP: https://ashaa.quorum.us/campaign/slp2027mpfspetition/

👂 Audiology: https://ashaa.quorum.us/campaign/aud2027mpfspetition/

Together, we can help ensure Medicare policies support high-quality, accessible care for the patients we serve.
