Today we celebrate the American flag and the values it represents: freedom, sacrifice, service, and unity.

Here in Coventry, those values are reflected every day through our veterans, first responders, teachers, small business owners, volunteers, and neighbors who help make our community strong.

As we honor Old Glory, we also celebrate the people who continue to uphold the American spirit right here at home.

Coventry’s budget process continues with important meetings and a referendum vote ahead. Whether you support or oppose the proposal, your voice matters.

Too often, a handful of loud voices can create the impression they speak for everyone. They don’t. The future of our town should be shaped by informed residents who take the time to participate, ask questions, and make their opinions known.

Attend the meetings, submit comments, and most importantly, vote.

The process belongs to all of us, not just the loudest people in the room. And as history often reminds us, volume and confidence are not always the same thing as being right.

The Town has now been presented with two budget proposals before the FY 2024–2025 audit was completed and released for public review.

The audit was originally due in January 2026 and was released approximately five months later. That timing raises a reasonable question: how can taxpayers fully evaluate new budget proposals without first having the completed financial picture from the prior year?

Transparency and informed decision-making are important parts of the budget process. Residents should take the opportunity to review the audit and understand how it relates to the financial decisions being made for the upcoming fiscal year.

CTDOT is announcing that milling and resurfacing will be performed on Route 6 in Coventry, Columbia, Mansfield, and Windham starting on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 and be completed on November 26, 2026.

LANE CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO:
There will be ramp closures on Route 6 starting June 16 to around November 26, 2026, from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Ramp closures will take place between mile markers 87.78 and 93.14 eastbound and between 87.81 and 93.37 westbound.

Traffic control signing patterns and State Troopers will guide motorists through the work zone.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.

On June 18th, the Town of Coventry is preparing to discuss potential modifications to our Town Charter on the document that helps govern how our local government operates.

Over the past year, Coventry residents have made their voices heard. First, during the debate over the backyard shooting range ordinance, where public input ultimately prevailed. More recently, voters twice rejected proposed budgets that included increased spending and higher taxes.

Now, attention turns to the Charter itself.

As this process moves forward, it is fair to ask how the voice of the people is envisioned in Coventry’s future. When residents have spoken clearly on major issues, what role will that voice play as changes to the Charter are considered?

Whether you support the proposed changes, oppose them, or are still gathering information, now is the time to pay attention, ask questions, review the proposals, and participate in the discussion.

The Public Hearing on proposed Charter changes will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 7:00 PM at Coventry High School Veterans Auditorium.

Also come out on June 15 as the Town Council discuss the budget.

As always, some will come to discuss the Charter, while others will come to perform for the audience.
