September is National Literacy Month! 💚🖐

Literacy includes reading, writing, speaking, and listening – and it’s the foundation of a child's learning process. The best way to build these skills and develop your child’s literacy is to talk, read, and sing with your child every day, from day one!

Did you know that reading proficiently by the end of third grade is a critical indicator of future academic success and life outcomes? In Shasta County 58.45% of 3rd Graders are reading below grade level.

This is one of the many reasons First 5 Shasta partnered with the Shasta County Office of Education and Shasta Public Libraries to bring Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to Shasta County! Parents with children birth through age 5 can sign up to recieve free books in the mail each month – making it easier than ever to talk, read, and sing every day! 📚
