MMS Aviation

MMS Aviation Preparing people and planes for worldwide missionary service in Coshocton, Ohio.

MMS prepares aircraft for missions while training aircraft mechanics for mission service. Since 1975 MMS has provided an aircraft maintenance apprenticeship for those who wish to serve God through mission aviation. MMS also provides aircraft repair, overhaul and modification free of any labor charge to Christian missionary organizations. After successful completion of a thirty month training progr

am, the apprentice is prepared to take the examinations for the Federal Aviation Administration airframe and powerplant mechanic license. From the initial day of training an MMS apprentice aircraft mechanic is a productive member of the mission community. Mission aircraft are repaired, overhauled or modified by apprentices under supervision of licensed and qualified staff. An exciting aspect of the MMS ministry is the short term mission field assistance of the Rapid Response Teams. These MMS teams help reduce the "down time" of an aircraft by providing extra man power for major inspections and repairs. This also provides the MMS mechanic the opportunity to experience foreign mission aviation ministries first hand.

Things are progressing nicely with the repairs on the 185! Pray for wisdom and clarity of mind for the team as we continue on.

Another Meet the Team coming your way! Chris explains a bit of who he is and processes what it looks like to inspect the wings of the 185 and some of the challenges his team is facing.

Meet the project manager of the 185 project! Dale Coates! He’s also our Chief Inspector, an avid beekeeper, and a mushroom foraging expert. Click the video to hear some of his testimony, how the Lord has used him in aviation, and what it takes to manage a project like this one.

Wings are stripped and are being disassembled to facilitate repairs, the rudder and flaps are well into their repair stages, the fuselage is gutted and being stripped for inspections and repairs, and the avionics research is underway! A very successful Week 2 of this project!

Before.

This is the Cessna 185 that begins transformation on Monday.
And when you look at it, you can tell - it’s full of stories. It makes you wish a plane could talk. What kind of runways have those tires landed on? Who were the people that filled this plane? How did the plane change their story that day?

Every dent, chip, and bullet hole - every bit of it was in service to the King since the 1980’s. Pretty soon, many of these stories will be told.

New project announcement! We hope you’ll tune in every week or every other week (pardon the goof up in the video) for a quick video update of this 1979 Cessna 185 restoration project. You’ll get to meet the ministry, the team working on the aircraft, and hopefully you’ll gain a greater understanding of what we do, day in and out, here at MMS as we seek to further the gospel through aviation.
