Before independence was declared in 1776 in Philadelphia, on this day, May 20, 1775, the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence, known as the “Mec Dec” was signed, declaring freedom from the British, making it one of North Carolina’s most important moments in Revolutionary history. Emblazoned on the NC State flag, this date has been celebrated for centuries! Want to learn more? Do you think the oldest store in North Carolina is haunted? Now’s your chance to find out. Join the Charlotte Area Paranormal Society (CAPS) for an authentic ghost hunt at the historic Hugh Torance House and Store . Step back in time to 1779 as you explore the rooms and grounds using professional investigative tools (or bring your own if you’re feeling brave).
