How fitting!

Hamilton County 911 is putting all emergencies on hold today as we take a moment of silence to honor the life and legacy of a true Tennessee legend, Dolly Parton.

If you call 911 today and happen to hear “Jolene” or “I Will Always Love You” playing quietly in the background, please just remain calm, answer our questions, and give us the information we need.

Rest easy, Dolly. Thank you for the music, the memories, and for making Tennessee a little brighter.

*Just to be clear, 9-1-1 is NEVER put on hold. Our telecommunicators are here 24/7/365, holidays included. No matter the day, the circumstances, or who we may be remembering, someone is always here answering your call and ready to help.

Also, no, you will not hear Dolly Parton playing in the background when you call 9-1-1. 😉 “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You” were simply a fun way to recognize just how much Dolly means to Tennessee and to people around the world. We might enjoy her music on a break, but never while we're answering your emergency call!*

The emergency may be over, but the work isn't.

Recovery begins as a community starts moving from immediate response toward rebuilding, restoring services, and returning to everyday life.

For emergency management, recovery can mean coordinating with local, state, federal, nonprofit, and private-sector partners, helping connect residents and communities with available assistance, documenting damages, supporting debris removal, and helping restore critical services.

And recovery isn't just about putting things back the way they were. It's also an opportunity to learn from what happened and build back stronger and more resilient for the next emergency.

Recovery can take days, months, or even years depending on the disaster, and it takes the entire community working together.
