🏆 Katy Beene takes home Reserve Champion English hen in the Open Poultry Show at the Mississippi State Fair with one of her former 4-H Poultry Chain birds. Way to go, Katy! 🎉

🐓 Kelcey, Liam, and Katy Beene represented Alcorn County 4-H at the State 4-H Poultry Chain Show. One picture shows them working hard to prep their birds for show! This is a great project that teaches youth responsibility, science of caring for chickens, sportsmanship, and record-keeping.
🍀 Kelcey won 4th place in the Senior Meat Division. Way to go, Kelcey!

⚛ 4-Hers in the 4-H STEM/Robotics Club learned about the pH scale and using an indicator, red cabbage, to test products to see if they are acidic or basic (alkaline). Youth extended their learning about the pH scale by creating invisible ink using baking soda and water. They then wrote messages on paper using the mixture that was revealed by rubbing the message with a damp tea bag. The tea bag acted as a pH indicator. The session wrapped up with freestyle painting where youth could choose to incorporate Walter Anderson painting techniques.

🎃 Check out the pumpkin collages made by Crafty Critters 4-H Club members! The club meets the second Thursday of most months from 5-6 pm. Mrs. Allison Beene is the club leader and does a great job incorporating unique craft ideas for our youth!

National 4-H Week—Alumni Spotlight. This may be a couple days late but it’s great to celebrate a recent Alcorn County 4-H alum. Meet Myrtralynn Shanks. She was an exceptional 4-Her, and we look forward to seeing how she excels in her future!

“Hi, my name is Myrtralynn Shanks. I am a sophomore at Mississippi State University majoring in Agribusiness Management. As a 4-H alumni, I am forever thankful for the community, friends, and supporting foundations that helped shape my 4-H journey. Along with this incredible blessing, I thank 4-H for giving me the confidence to step outside my comfort zone and lead by example for the upcoming 4-Hers. Participating in county project areas led me to campaign for and win a 4-H state officer position and also to be a county and MS 4-H ambassador. I will forever have a special place in my heart for all the incredible opportunities 4-H blessed me with. And most importantly, I want to thank all the volunteers and agents who pushed me to achieve success throughout my years in 4-H.”
