Veteran advocacy is a legacy that unites generations—past, present, and future.

Recently, Texas VFW National and State Legislative Chairman Mitch Fuller met with Patrick Schneider, grandson of former Texas VFW Department Commander Robert "Tiger" Lyons. Lyons—a World War II Veteran and former Prisoner of War—dedicated decades to serving Veterans and their families through the Veterans of Foreign Wars, continuing his advocacy long after his military service ended.

Today, that legacy of advocacy continues as Patrick works on “Claims Shark” legislation, working to ensure Veterans receive the benefits they have earned.

One issue currently receiving national attention is the fight against "claim sharks", unaccredited individuals or companies that charge Veterans thousands of dollars for assistance with VA disability claims. The Department of Veterans Affairs, VFW, and numerous Veterans organizations support efforts to strengthen protections for Veterans and encourage the use of VA-accredited representatives, who are trained and authorized to assist Veterans with their claims.

The VFW remains committed to its mission of ensuring every Veteran has access to trusted, ethical, and accredited assistance when navigating the VA benefits process.
