Still buzzing from the community joy seen at Art in the Park! It was truly a day of sunshine and smiles with crowds of kids, teens, adults, families, and maybe even a few self-proclaimed old geezers. We are so grateful for the support of the 1889 Foundation, the Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance and the PA Humanities Council. The only rain the fell was sprinkled from watering cans on the magic poetry written by community students. So much to celebrate! 🎉

There’s no one like Dolly Parton! 🩷 Here at the Arts Center, her music has inspired local young musicians (and crankie kids), and many of us grew up singing along to her classic hits. 🎸 🎶 Dolly Parton’s love of children, books, and her generous spirit set a beautiful example for outreach and community building. Through Storytime and at our Great Halloween Book Giveaway, we’ve distributed hundreds of books to local kids and signed up early readers for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, bringing them a free books in the mail every month. 📚 Dolly and our friends at the amazing organization Reading Ready Pittsburgh have helped make this possible in Confluence. Thank you, Dolly Parton, for showing how music, books, and imagination can shape lives! 💛

We hope you can make it to Art in the Park THIS SATURDAY, August 29th from 11am-3pm!

Try printmaking. Paint a wooden cow. Make and shake a rainstick. Try a bowed psaltery or a banjo or an instrument you’ve never touched before. Watch a clown juggle on stilts. Discover a local vendor. Read a child’s haiku. Art in the Park shows that Confluence is a trail town with heART!

A HeARTfelt Thank You! đź’›
We are overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity shown to the Confluence Creative Arts Center in the aftermath of last week’s flooding. 💛
A huge thank you to the Confluence Volunteer Fire Company for pumping out our flooded basement and helping us get past the basement steps without waders. Thank you to the many community members who showed up to scrub, haul, clean, sort, and take loads of laundry home to wash. Your willingness to immediately jump in and help has meant more than we can say.
We are also incredibly grateful to our friends near and far who have sent donations, encouraging messages, kind words, and support. Every contribution—whether it was a monetary donation, a load of laundry, a helping hand, or a message letting us know you care—has demonstrated that we are a community with heART, a community that recognizes that music, art, and engagement is vital to small towns.
While the flood caused a lot of damage for us, it has been heartbreaking for many families in our region who lost a lot and are still shoveling out mud and hauling away stones and gravel. We are all helping each other the best we can. As soon as possible, we are looking forward to a clean start in the Arts Center basement, with improvements that will help us better manage drainage during future storms. We’re committed to making the Arts Center a place where creativity and community come together. And the beat goes on! Mark your calendars and join us for Art in the Park!

Confluence Theater Camp kids are ready to shine! 💫 Tonight we’ll have two shows of PETER & WENDY featuring a cast of 30 local kids aged 5 to 14. Every kid has lines to learn, songs to sing, and dances to do…and the ensemble scenes are, like, WOW! How did THAT happen in five days?! We are so fortunate to have the best of the best directors—Rachel and Taylor from Missoula Children’s Theater, a Montana-based program that send their talented teams around the country in little red trucks to bring BIG shows to communities like ours. We are grateful for the energy, enthusiasm, and professionalism of our super-sweet directors, AND we are so appreciative of the support of the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies! 👏👏🤗🎉Thanks to parents for their efforts to give their kids these opportunities and thanks to our community for making Confluence a TrailTown with heART!💛 See you at the shows! Tonight-June 25 at 4 pm and 6:30 pm. Following the show, follow our Giant George Washington parade figure to the Point to watch fireworks 🎆 at dark.
