UPDATE: this program is for Turkeyfoot school district only. Other school districts have their own programs. Please reach out to the school district in your area for information on their programs and how to sign up for those programs.

Next week school starts. The Turkeyfoot backpack program will continue this year. The funding for the program is provided through donations as there is no Federal or State funding. Last year, the donations came from local businesses, residents, social clubs, church groups and women's groups.

The backpacks will be distributed twice per month and contain food for the weekend to cover breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack. And some weekends, there will be a surprise activity for the kids in the backpacks!

Permission slips for the backpack program will be sent home with the kids who are eligible in Pre-K through 6th grade. Be on the lookout for them.

If you would like your child to receive a backpack of free food for the weekend, please sign the permission slip and return it to the school. We are hoping to start the program in October this year.

I must apologize because I didn't take photos of our delivery truck/unload today. But, I do know what produce was delivered: apples, beets, cabbage, carrots, celery, cucumbers, watermelon & zucchini. Don't forget your bags and boxes!!

After this week of flood waters, uncertainty, removimg water, debris and unknown substances from basements, garages , outbuildimgs etc., it is nice to share some good news: the Pantry will be open on Friday. Shout out to some hard working volunteers who helped us squeegee up water and wet vac the floors at the community center today in preparation for delivery/setup tomorrow and Pantry on Friday: Logan Patterson, Karen Mara, and the Mow Master himself. Great job and greatly appreciated!
Tomorrow, I will post photos of our produce selection and canned goods available.

In a few days, there will be a post about the Turkeyfoot Backpack program at the school for eligible students. Backpacks are distributed two weekends a month.

Thank you for everyone bringing their patience last Friday for new fiscal year sign up! It was greatly appreciated.
We had 91 households consisting of 18 children, 52 adults and 92 seniors (total of 162) come through on Friday.

Tomorrow is Pantry day!

Thank you to our volunteers who braved that incredibly high humidity this afternoon to unload the truck, set up the tables, put all the food on tables and prepare bags with milk and eggs.

Our produce this month is: apples, nectarines, tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage, onions, potatoes and carrots.

Remember, everyone has to recertify (sign up) tomorrow. Bring your bags, boxes and plenty of patience!! :-)
