Working to pass an amendment to the Constitution to restore a healthy democracy and lasting American republic, in which Constitutional rights for human beings are secure, and all citizens are equal, with the ability to govern effectively together. The goal of American Promise is to win the 28th Amendment to the Constitution - the “For Our Freedom” Amendment - to put the American people- not money, not global corporations, not unions or special interests- in control of our destiny and our lives.

At American Promise, we work to ensure every American has a voice in our system of self-government, regardless of wealth or special interests.

We're helping Americans advance a constitutional amendment that would restore the ability of voters to decide how money works in our elections, so that our elected representatives are accountable to the people again.

A new poll is making headlines: Americans across party lines agree — special interests and mega donors have too much influence in Washington. Voters want the power restored to states and Congress to set reasonable limits on campaign spending and contributions.

That’s why support is growing for a constitutional amendment to protect the voice of everyday Americans in our elections.

Liberty has a way of bringing out the best in people. When individuals believe their voices matter and their future is in their own hands, they step forward with courage, take action, and often rise beyond what they thought possible.

At American Promise, we see that same spirit in the effort to ensure every citizen has a voice in shaping our country’s direction.

Pennsylvania State Senator David Argall joined American Promise CEO Jeff Clements to discuss the growing pressures of political fundraising, describing the current system as an “arms race” that leaves everyone worse off.

Donors get fatigued by constant asks, candidates lose control over their messaging, and voters are left frustrated with a system that feels increasingly unresponsive.

At American Promise, we believe constitutional change does not follow a fixed clock — it happens when history opens a window.

That’s why we see this decade as a real opportunity for the For Our Freedom Amendment. When civic pressure builds and public demand is clear, meaningful reform becomes possible.

The question is whether we meet this moment with the focus and urgency it calls for.

Big news: U.S. Rep. Tom Barrett has introduced House Joint Resolution 191, a constitutional amendment that would restore the authority of Congress and the states to set reasonable rules for money in elections while protecting free speech.

As American Promise CEO Jeff Clements said:
"Today's introduction marks a meaningful step towards reclaiming the American people's freedom to decide the role of money in politics."

Twenty-five state legislatures have already called on Congress to advance a constitutional amendment addressing the role of money in politics. We thank Rep. Barrett for moving this effort forward.

In December, the Supreme Court heard NRSC v. FEC, a case that could reshape how money moves through American elections. A decision is expected any day now, before the Court breaks for its summer recess.

Decades of Supreme Court decisions have steadily shifted authority over money in politics away from voters and our elected representatives. American Promise believes it’s time to restore We the People’s authority to decide how money works in our elections.

As the Court prepares to rule, stay tuned Monday for an important update.
