Alaska voters have made their choice — twice.

For the second time in 20 years, more than 7 in 10 Alaskans voted to limit campaign contributions. But decades of federal court rulings have restricted what voters and their elected representatives can do to set rules around money in elections.

The For Our Freedom Amendment would restore that authority, so voters and their elected representatives can decide what rules for money make sense for their elections.

Earlier this year, Maine leaders from across the political spectrum marked 16 years since the Supreme Court decided Citizens United to call attention to the growing influence of outside money in our elections.

It was an important reminder that we need to restore the ability of voters, and the people we elect to represent us, to set the rules for political spending in our elections. Thankfully, 25 states, including Maine, have called on Congress to introduce a U.S. constitutional amendment that will restore that authority.
