YMCA Roberts Ranch 1,100 acres of Texas Hill Country for the benefit and enjoyment of all: Where Youth Development meets Land Stewardship 🤝 Mr. Roberts’ vision.

In the late 1990’s Roberts Ranch was generously donated to the Y by the late Bob Roberts of Comfort. Roberts envisioned the ranch to be a place where families and children could gather to explore the outdoors in a beautiful Hill Country setting. The pristine habitat, native plants and wildlife make the ranch the perfect laboratory for learning about and exploring nature. For years, the property has served hundreds of children through an outdoor education program sponsored by Texas Parks and Wildlife. Now, the YMCA is hoping to greatly increase the number of children and families served at the ranch through new programming intended to fulfill Mr. Programs offered at the ranch include conservation and stewardship workshops, school groups, youth groups, group camping, guided hikes, fishing, and wildlife study.

Over the weekend Thousand Oaks Family YMCA joined us at YMCA Roberts Ranch for a morning of volunteering as we worked together to keep our trails and program areas beautiful and ready for youth and families this fall! 🍂

Feeling especially grateful for all the committed volunteers that we are able to welcome to Roberts Ranch. 🙏🏼 🤠

We even had some special wildlife appearances. 👀

BIG news for Roberts Ranch! 🌱

Big Red Sage is an endangered plant species that only occurs in the wild in a few locations within central Texas, so we were excited to stumble upon some healthy and established Big Red sage thriving on the property

This is a reminder that places like Roberts Ranch allow plants and animals not just to exist, but to flourish, as their natural behaviors and life cycles become less disrupted.

Thank you TPWD and Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center for joining us last month to collect seeds and data for this special plant species.

This week Davis-Scott Family YMCA teens learned a little about local watersheds like the San Antonio River Basin and the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone. 💧

Water supplies, animal habitat, and recreation are all dependent on healthy watersheds, but they can be negatively impacted by various forms of pollution, including runoff and erosion. After conversations and a watershed model activity, we learned how plants onsite at the DS native plant garden can support healthy watersheds and local wildlife. We finished the day off by creating garden signs identifying each of these vital plants.

💧🌱 Thank you Davis-Scott Family YMCA

150 years. Countless lives changed. ❤️

On June 6, the YMCA of Greater San Antonio celebrates 150 years of strengthening our community through connection, belonging, health, and opportunity.

For generations, families have found support, friendship, and a place to grow at the Y. As we celebrate this milestone under the theme Uniting Generations, we invite you to join us during Birthday Week (June 1–6), wear red on June 6, and help us honor the people and stories that have shaped our legacy.

Visit ymcasatx150.org to explore birthday events, community celebrations, and ways to get involved throughout the week.

Thank you for being part of our YMCA family. Here's to 150 years of impact—and the generations still to come.
