We’re so close to opening the doors to our new home at 555 South Front Street in the Brewery District, and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead. Thankful for the support of Columbus City Council.

Sharing this space with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio means more than a new address. It means deeper partnership and greater impact. Lola’s journey through our High School Equivalency (HSE) program is one of resilience, perseverance, and self‑belief.
“My journey in the HSE program has been trying,” Lola shares, reflecting on the obstacles she faced along the way, including “homelessness, unemployment, and family issues.” Yet for Lola, the biggest challenge wasn’t external, it was internal. “My greatest challenge was learning to believe in myself.”
Lola first came to Godman Guild as a teen mother and high school dropout, with what she describes as a “4th‑grade education level.” But that isn’t how our team saw her. “The team here saw me as so much more than that,” she says. “They provided me with community, support, and, most of all, hope.”
Like many adult learners, Lola’s path wasn’t linear. Life intervened, and there were moments when she had to step away or start again. What made the difference? “There were times when I gave up or had to put my education on hold due to unforeseen circumstances, and I am so grateful that Godman Guild and the HSE program welcomed me back with open arms each time.”
Today, Lola’s story continues. She has returned to the Guild this cohort to participate in Career Bridges, our workforce development program designed to help participants take their next step toward sustainable employment.
Her message to others is powerful and clear: “I encourage everyone to believe in themselves regardless of the obstacles they face and to take full advantage of the support Godman Guild offers. I did it, and you are next!”
We’re proud of you, Lola, and honored to walk alongside you as your journey continues.
