Thanks to everyone who braved a muggy and buggy evening at Whetstone Park to join us for our June Cookout. It was a great opportunity to catch up and talk about plans in 2026.

We started the event with a moment of silence for longtime CAP member and early vote warrior Carole DePaola, who sadly passed recently.

We were joined by old friends like Columbus City Councilmember Rob Dorans and Franklin County Engineer Adam Fowler. We originally planned to welcome our local Dem state legislators, but they were pulled away by a special session of the Ohio General Assembly (we are thankful for their efforts to fight back against a slew of terrible GOP-led bills).

We also got to know Zoie Smith. Zoie is a Central Ohio rep with the Ohio Democratic Party's coordinated campaign for this November's election. We will be working with Zoie to canvass Clintonville for Amy Acton, Sherrod Brown and the whole Democratic ticket. Today the entire Clintonville Area Progressives family mourns the loss of our beloved Carole DePaola.

As a member of our organization and devoted Franklin County Executive Committee member, Carole spent much of her life working to elect Democrats throughout our county---back when that was a significantly more difficult task. We will miss her cheerful face at the Early Vote Center, and her dry wit when asking tough questions of our guests at CAP meetings. Perhaps Carole's biggest political passion was women's rights; you rarely saw her without her signature green ERA button.

Funeral arrangements are forthcoming. We will share them when they are available.
