FALL FOR THE ARTS ARTIST -- PATRICE WIELGUS

For years, Patrice Wielgus preferred the simplicity of pencil and was hesitant to venture into color. Then she picked up watercolor — and a whole new part of her artistic journey began.

Today, Patrice works in everything from pencil and watercolor to acrylic and mixed media, creating expressive pieces that explore color, texture and emotion. Her art is influenced by family, personal experiences and her desire to create work that makes people stop, look and feel.

We're excited to have Patrice joining us for Fall for the Arts on Saturday, September 19, where you'll find her and her artwork at Pioneer Plaza.

Something pretty special is coming to downtown Columbus on September 19.

For one day, businesses throughout the Trackside District will become places to discover art, hear live music and experience the creativity of artists and performers from Columbus and beyond.

And that's what makes Fall for the Arts different. There isn't just one place to go. The idea is to explore downtown.

Stop into a business and discover an artist. Walk a little farther and hear a musician. Visit the gallery. Grab lunch or a drink. Do some shopping. Take in the Sculpture & Mural Walk. Then head to the next stop and see what you discover.

We can't wait to see downtown come alive!

FALL FOR THE ARTS ARTIST -- AMY TOMASEVICZ

What happens when an artist takes something familiar and decides to see it a little differently?

For Columbus artist Amy Tomasevicz, the answer is what she calls “altered reality.”

Using pastel, mixed media and alcohol inks, Amy plays with color, texture, movement and perspective to transform the familiar into something uniquely her own.

But Amy’s story is about much more than the artwork she creates. She’s an award-winning artist, longtime art educator, arts advocate and teacher who has spent decades encouraging creativity in others.

On Saturday, September 19, she’ll be one of the featured artists participating in Fall for the Arts, with her work on display at Duster’s.

MEET THE FALL FOR THE ARTS MUSICIAN: OLIVIA VANDERFORD 🎶

She's sung at the Nebraska State Capitol. She's performed the National Anthem at the state wrestling championships in Omaha. And on September 19, Olivia Vanderford is bringing her voice to downtown Columbus!

Olivia is an Agricultural Communications student at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, a member of UNL's Big Red Singers and host of The Engler Journey podcasts, sharing the stories of students with a passion for agriculture and entrepreneurship.

Her Nebraska roots run deep. Olivia spent 10 years showing pigs in 4-H, grew up traveling the state with her family on “Pure Nebraska” shoots for 10/11 News and now serves as Miss Fremont.

We're excited to add Olivia's voice to the incredible variety of talent you'll discover during Fall for the Arts!

The Fall for the Arts lineup just keeps growing!

We’ve added another performer to an already packed day of art, music and creativity in Downtown Columbus!

Oscar Vazquez Medrano has joined the lineup and will perform at Cork & Barrel from 12:45–1:45 p.m. on Saturday, September 19.

With artists exhibiting throughout the Trackside District and live performances happening at multiple venues, there’s going to be a LOT to see and hear. That means you’ll definitely want to check out the updated schedule and start planning your day!

YOUR TURN TO TAKE THE STAGE!

Fall for the Arts isn't just about coming downtown to see talented artists and performers—you can be part of the day, too!

The Community Open Mic is giving local talent ages 8 and older an opportunity to step up and share what they can do. Sing a song, play an instrument, read your poetry, perform a monologue, share some comedy, dance—or surprise us with another creative talent!

Only 20 ten-minute performance slots are available, so if you've been looking for a reason to step in front of an audience, this could be it. Whether you're an experienced performer or trying something new, the goal is simply to create a supportive place to share your talent.

🎶 FALL FOR THE ARTS -- MEET SARAH BETTENHAUSEN 🎶

For more than 30 years, music has been part of Sarah Bettenhausen’s story.

From classical vocal training and performing overseas to teaching and supporting arts organizations, Sarah’s journey has taken several turns — but the arts have remained an important part of her life.

On September 19, Sarah will bring that experience to Fall for the Arts, sharing a contemporary acoustic performance featuring vocals and ukulele at Valencia Boutique.

We’re excited to have Sarah joining us and invite you to learn a little more about the musician behind the performance.

Fall for the Arts isn’t just about coming downtown to see talented artists and musicians — you can be part of the day, too!

The Fall for the Arts Community Open Mic will be happening Saturday, September 19, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Henry's on 11th in the Trackside District, and there’s still time to claim your spot.

🎶 Sing or play an instrument
🎙 Share poetry, comedy or a reading
🎨 Dance, paint or showcase another performance art
👏 Or simply stop by, grab a treat and cheer on our local talent!

The Open Mic is open to ages 8 and older, with 10-minute performance slots available. All talents are welcome in this supportive, family-friendly environment.
