At Cleveland State University, capital investments are supporting critical mechanical, electrical, and plumbing upgrades across campus, including improvements connected to Fenn Hall and the future Biomedical Discovery Complex.

These projects will strengthen education and research in biomedical science, engineering, health, and data science. And they’ll help prepare more students for in-demand careers, positioning the region to develop, attract, and retain the talent that will drive our state’s future.

Ohio’s continued capital support helps public universities modernize facilities, expand opportunities for students, and build the workforce Ohio needs to compete and grow.

Ohio’s public universities are making an impact in communities across our state and around the world.

We’re proud to see Northeast Ohio Medical University putting its expertise into action to support disaster response and recovery efforts in Nepal.

Through its Center for Global Health Innovation, NEOMED is working with students, faculty, and international partners to address urgent health and environmental needs, while helping to restore essential infrastructure and strengthening community health systems for the future.

It’s a powerful example of the role Ohio’s public universities play: educating the next generation and putting that knowledge to work to make a difference in communities near and far.

What happens when 125 higher education leaders come together to talk about what’s next?

Last week, leaders across Ohio’s public universities gathered for the 7th Annual IUC Collaborative Initiatives Summit to share ideas, learn from one another, and identify new opportunities to work together.

Dr. Darren Pulsipher’s keynote on becoming AI-augmented added another timely perspective: How can higher education use AI to expand human capability while preparing institutions and their workforce for what comes next?

That kind of conversation is exactly why collaboration matters. Ohio’s public universities don’t have to navigate these changes independently. They can learn from one another, share resources and build on what’s already working.

$52.6 billion in added income every year.

And with a projected 85,000 new jobs by 2032 requiring at least a bachelor’s degree or above, investing in public higher education today means building Ohio’s workforce for tomorrow.

Constitution Day is September 17, but the work of building an informed and engaged citizenry happens throughout the year.

Across Ohio, our public universities create opportunities for students and communities to learn about the Constitution, ask questions and engage in conversations about the principles that shape our democracy. From celebrations and pre-law programs to public discussions of constitutional issues, each university brings its own perspective to this important work.

It is one of the many ways Ohio’s public universities contribute to strong communities: by preparing graduates to participate not only in the workforce, but in civic life.

This Constitution Day, we’re proud to recognize the work happening across our 14 universities.

Building Ohio’s workforce takes collaboration across higher education, industry and government. The Ohio State University is putting that idea into action as one of seven universities partnering with Stanford University on the new Foundry School, a national initiative to prepare the entrepreneurs, engineers, technicians, and industry leaders needed for the future of advanced manufacturing.

The program connects universities with industry leaders to build skills in areas like modern factory design, materials and supply chains, assembly-line engineering, and industrial automation.

It’s a great example of how Ohio’s public universities are helping connect talent, education, and economic opportunity.

Congratulations to Bowling Green State University on making history!

Their Marching Band has grown to a record 600 members, becoming the largest collegiate marching band in America and the largest in university history.

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is the momentum behind it: five consecutive years of growth, expanding from just 90 members in 2022 to 600 today.

With appearances at prestigious events such as Dublin’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade and the upcoming 2027 Rose Parade, these student musicians are showcasing Ohio talent on a global stage.

The Inter-University Council Purchasing Group is Ohio’s collaborative procurement organization for higher education, bringing institutions together to leverage their collective purchasing power and secure better pricing and terms on the goods and services they rely on every day.

Last year, IUC-PG’s efforts generated an estimated $50 million in savings for Ohio’s higher education institutions.

When people talk about the need for greater collaboration in the public sector, Ohio’s public universities are already leading the way to show what’s possible when institutions work together. We have a proven history of finding smarter ways to operate, tackling shared challenges, and saving millions of dollars along the way.

Through the IUC Collaborative Initiatives Summit on September 22, university leaders from across Ohio will come together to celebrate what they’ve accomplished, share best practices and explore how we can work more efficiently and serve students more effectively.

September is National Workforce Development Month, and Ohio’s public universities are already preparing for what comes next.

Ohio will need more than 1 million workers with at least a bachelor’s degree to fill new and replacement jobs over this decade.

Meeting that need means preparing the teachers, engineers, nurses, doctors, entrepreneurs, and innovators who will keep Ohio moving forward.
