ATTIC TO ARCHIVE | BOLIVAR TOWERS, SAWYER TOWERS, SKYVIEW TOWERS, LATITUDE FIVE25

Originally built in the 1960s as public housing, the distinctive 14-story towers became a familiar East Side landmark and one of the most recognizable parts of the Columbus skyline. Over the decades, the buildings reflected changing eras of Columbus history — from urban renewal and public housing to downtown revitalization and private redevelopment.

In more recent years, the towers became known for ongoing maintenance and safety issues, including broken elevators, water leaks, burst pipes, mold, asbestos concerns, and deteriorating living conditions that eventually forced residents to evacuate during the winter of 2022. The situation drew major public attention and lawsuits involving tenant conditions and environmental cleanup.

With demolition and redevelopment now underway, the towers remain a complicated but unforgettable piece of Columbus history that generations of residents remember well.
