We don’t expect every child to wear the same size shoe.

So why do we keep expecting every mind to fit the same pace, path, and grade-level box?

Don’t solve this one for them.

Ask the question. Let them choose.

Then, instead of telling them whether you think it’s a good idea, ask:

“What would someone who disagrees with you say?”

And then:

“Okay. Convince them.”

The $100 is just the setup. The real challenge is defending the thinking behind the choice.

Finishing early isn’t the problem.

What we ask students to do next often is.

When a student has already demonstrated mastery, “here are five more” may keep them busy, but it doesn’t necessarily move their thinking forward.

One of my favorite planning questions for advanced learners is:

Can I change the THINKING instead of adding the WORK?

Rank it. Defend it. Find the exception. Challenge the assumption. Change perspectives. Develop a counterargument.

Same content. Much richer thinking.

Educators: save this one for the next time you hear, “I’m done.” 👀

We spend a lot of time looking at student growth.

But when gifted students are already meeting or exceeding expectations, it can be easy to stop at: They're doing well.

That's not the question I'm interested in.

What did they learn that they didn't already know?

What can they do now that they couldn't do before?

A student can be incredibly successful without actually experiencing much growth.

Why aren't we asking about growth for our gifted students, too?

I really thought I had this one. 😂

There’s nothing quite like confidently answering one question… only to realize it was actually the opening round of an intellectual cross-examination.

And somehow, five questions later, we’re discussing something I definitely did not learn in grad school.

What happens when gifted learners are given room to go deeper?

They investigate hidden systems. Solve a cold case from Pompeii. Take ideas apart, follow unexpected questions, and talk with other kids who understand why “good enough” is rarely the end of the conversation.

Fall classes are now open for grades K–8, with options in Glen Allen and online.

Equity isn’t everyone getting the same thing.

It’s every learner having access to what they need to grow, even when that means going beyond what’s typically offered.
