It seems that was born with it, the stuff that makes her who she is. She had been writing as early as she learned to write, singing for as long as she can remember, and loving music for longer.
Since then her stratospheric rise has been marked by three Grammys and her high-grossing first long tour. When the world remeets Rodrigo, she’s found catharsis in writing “you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love,” her third studio album that’s hollowed out the charts with its searing honesty.
At 23, she’s carved out an emotional vocabulary for a new generation. Still, she admits, she hasn’t stopped trying to find the right words. “When I set out to make this record, I knew I wanted to write songs about romantic love in more of a positive way, and I think it’s still something that I haven’t nailed. I don’t think anyone has really nailed it,” she says, “which is why we keep trying.”
