Welcome to Terps Raising Pups!

We are University of Maryland students raising and sitting puppies for the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind and America's VetDogs.

For this , we’re highlighting Cheer! Cheer was raised by Ashley Ireland and Riley Ward at UMD on the guide track. She graduated in June 2026 as a working guide dog and is currently working with paralympic athlete Anastasia Pagonis! Go Cheer!

September 1 marks the beginning of National Guide Dog Month and a very special milestone for Terps Raising Pups: our 10-year anniversary! 🐾🎉

As we celebrate a decade of raising and training service dogs on the University of Maryland campus, we’re looking back at where it all began. Simba, our first SDIT on campus, came to campus in September 2016. Simba was raised by Laura Werber and went on to graduate as a guide dog with the Guide Dog Foundation.

Since then, Terps Raising Pups has raised 163 additional pups, including: 🦮 25 guide dogs 🐕‍🦺 32 AVD dogs 🦮 16 MSA dogs 🐕‍🦺 4 ATF dogs 🦮 1 Blue Path Autism Support Dog 🐕‍🦺 5 breeder dogs

And we’re not slowing down! We currently have 8 dogs being raised on campus and 3 more in training. 🐶💛

All of the TPR pups are dreaming about their first day back to school. Teal loves the spots, Chilly want to go to class, and Tricky just want to make some new friends.

Join us in wishing good luck to Emmett as he heads in for breeder evaluations today, in the hopes of becoming a dad with GDF! Emmett was raised by repeated raisers and ACs Julie Gray and Royce Hartin and first time raiser Alexis Stonebanks in the Guide curriculum. We’re so proud of Emmett and so excited for his future.

🐾 Happy National Dog Day! 🐾

Today we’re celebrating the amazing pups who bring so much joy, love, and purpose into our lives! 💙

At Terps Raising Pups, we’re proud to raise future guide dogs for the Guide Dog Foundation. From puppyhood to their next big adventure, every pup teaches us something new and reminds us just how special the human-animal bond can be. 🦮❤️

Here’s to all the dogs who make our lives better—especially our Pups! 🐶🎓

Join us in welcoming 2 new Terps to campus! Koch (pronounced Cook) will be raised by repeat raiser AC Carina Morley and first time raiser Maddie Ward in the guide curriculum. Chili will be started by AC Makenna Steele in the Guide curriculum. We also got to welcome Tricky back to campus and her raisers as she returned from breeder evals for a few more months of training. We’re so excited to watch these puppies and raisers learn & grow. Welcome, Koch & Chili and welcome back, Tricky!
