ADHA Massachusetts

ADHA Massachusetts ADHA Massachusetts We have more concern for the general health of our patients and not just their oral health .

The Massachusetts Dental Hygienists' Association was incorporated on May 19, 1944 by 11 hygienists “to assist in promoting the art and science of dental hygiene, elevate and sustain the professional character and education of the dental hygienists, promote mutual improvement, social intercourse and good will; disseminate knowledge of oral hygiene, enlighten and direct public opinion in relation to

oral hygiene and dental prophylaxis; to represent, to have cognizance of and to endeavor to safeguard the common interests of the dental profession.”

Today's Massachusetts dental hygienists are endeavoring to do much the same thing in a different time and place. As dental hygienists in the 21st century we are also concerned with OSHA standards; with new technologies; and with increasing our political knowledge and clout to assist the profession of dental hygiene in serving the public's oral health and total health needs. The Massachusetts Dental Hygienists' Association is part of the American Dental Hygienists' Association and has representation on their Board of Trustees through the District One Trustee. We have collaborative relationships with many organizations and associations, including those in other dental fields, the medical field and public health. The Board of Trustees is the leadership conduit of the Massachusetts Dental Hygienists' Association and is lead by the President with assistance from the Executive Officers. The Board of Trustees is also comprised of Trustees that represent each of the 11 components and 6 Council Chairs. The Massachusetts Dental Hygienists' Association holds its' Annual Meeting in the fall of each year. It is at this meeting where the House of Delegates votes for its Executive Officers.

‼️Legislative Update from MDHA

Thank you to everyone who participated in our recent VoterVoice campaigns and advocacy efforts. Your emails and outreach helped ensure legislators heard directly from dental hygienists across Massachusetts.

While Dental Therapy Amendment #56 to the Senate Primary Care Bill (S.3116) was not adopted during Senate debate, we are grateful for the strong response from members and supporters who helped elevate the conversation around oral health access.

We also have an update on our Nitrous Oxide bill: the Joint Committee on Health Care Financing has extended the reporting deadline for the House bill from June 15 to July 31, allowing additional time for review and continued advocacy.

Every email and action alert makes a difference. Thank you for your continued engagement as we work to advance policies that strengthen the dental hygiene profession and improve access to care throughout the Commonwealth.

🚨ACTION ALERT: Support Dental Therapy in Massachusetts! Use the VoterVoice campaign link and submit your testimony by this Thursday!

Oral health is healthcare, and Massachusetts has an opportunity to prove it.

Amendment #56 to the Senate Primary Care Bill (S.3116) would authorize dental therapists in Massachusetts, helping expand access to care for patients facing provider shortages, financial barriers, and limited access to MassHealth providers.

Dental therapists are a proven solution that increase access, improve efficiency, and help reduce costly emergency dental visits. Now is the time to make sure oral health is included in conversations about primary care.

🚨Massachusetts RDHS: Please take a moment to contact your State Senator through our VoterVoice campaign and ask them to support Amendment #56.

Together, we can advance access to care and strengthen the future of oral health in Massachusetts.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health will soon be surveying healthcare professionals to better understand workforce challenges, job satisfaction, and factors influencing career decisions.

When the survey becomes available, we encourage dental hygienists to participate and share their honest experiences. This is an important opportunity to highlight the realities of our profession from workforce shortages and barriers to patient access, to limited career advancement opportunities and challenges practicing to the full extent of our education and training.

The more decision-makers understand the experiences of oral health professionals, the better equipped they are to develop policies that strengthen our workforce and improve access to care across Massachusetts.

No one understands the challenges facing dental hygienists better than dental hygienists themselves. Make sure your experience is part of the conversation.
