Shipping icons over 3,000 miles across an ocean is a complex process that requires meticulous planning and handling. After a settling period, the crates are opened carefully. Once opened, the Registrar inspects the pieces to ensure they are ready for display. Finally, everything is skillfully hung for presentation.

The Exaltation of the Cross is a Great Feast celebrating the one true cross of Jesus Christ. According to tradition, Saint Helena, mother of Constantine the Great, was sent to Jerusalem to find the holy sites and relics. She found Golgotha and raised the true cross. Subsequently, a church was built where the cross was found, and a feast day was established.

This 19th-century icon originated from a festival tier on an iconostasis. Its style differs significantly from the stylized iconography preferred by the Museum's founder, who favored Old Believer icons. This style is significantly influenced by Western European academic realism, which is characteristic of the iconography seen in Central Russia during the 19th century.
