American Legion James R. Kirby Post 50 Clinton Massachusetts A non-profit group of veteans helping and serving the community of Clinton. Mr. Kirby immigrated to the United States and Clinton in 1883. At the age of 42, Mr.

American Legion Post 50 Clinton, MA is named after James R Kirby born in County Mayo, Ireland in 1876. Kirby attended and graduated from both Clinton High School and Holy Cross College. Kirby settled down in Clinton opening his medical practice on 11 Chestnut Street. Kirby enlisted in the armed forces during the Great War WWI. Kirby became Clinton’s first casualty of WWI with his death from influ

enza on 29 September 1918. Upon soldiers returning home from WWI many Clinton WWI veterans became embolden to start an American Legion Post in Clinton and to name it after Mr. James R Kirby in 1919. Those founding members were Dr. James J Goodwin, William S. Duncan, John T. Gibbons, John J. O'Toole, James F. Moran, Edward W. Brady, James T Duane, Austin J. Kittridge, Arthur E. Jones, Peter F. Connolly, Lawrence F. O’Toole, Dr. Gilman C. Chase, George H. O’Toole and James F. Hastings.
