Today is Green Star Banner Day.

Today, September 28, we honor Veterans who came home from military service, but later died by su***de and the families they left behind.

For too long, these families have carried a loss that has had no distinct, nationally recognized symbol of its own.

The Green Star Service Banner exists to change that.

It honors the Veteran who served.
It acknowledges the circumstances of their loss.

Today, we are especially grateful to Carroll County and Frederick County, Maryland, for officially recognizing September 28, 2026, as a day honoring the Green Star Service Banner and the families it represents.

And a special thank you to Veteran advocate Josh Marks, who spearheaded the effort to bring this recognition forward in these Maryland communities. Advocacy happens because people are willing to make the calls, have the conversations, and keep pushing recognition forward, and we are grateful for Josh's work on behalf of Green Star families.

These proclamations matter.

Every community that says the words Green Star helps bring these families out of the shadows. Every proclamation creates awareness. Every conversation helps reduce stigma. And every step brings us closer to broader recognition for Green Star families.

Today, on Green Star Banner Day, we remember the Veterans we lost.

And we stand with the families who are still here.

The Veteran died by su***de. The family didn't.

On this day in 1898, Theodore Roosevelt led the Rough Riders up Kettle Hill during the Battle of San Juan Heights, later calling it "the great day of my life."

Roosevelt resigned as Assistant Secretary of the Navy to volunteer for military service. He helped organize the First U.S. Volunteer Cavalry, better known as the Roosevelt Rough Riders.

The charge at Kettle Hill made him a national hero and helped launch a political career that would carry him to the presidency just three years later. More than 100 years after the battle, he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his extraordinary bravery on that day.

We are excited to announce that 4FET is signed up to participate in the American Discovery Trail 250 Relay! We are (hoping) to get permission to ride my 3 horses during our leg that will go through Milford, Ohio 🙏. We could use a photographer and help with clean up (I am hoping to have a 3 wheel bicycle to use for this). I will make sure all helpers get a shirt or bandana!

The American Discovery 250 Relay - a 6,800-mile coast-to-coast event will be starting JULY 1st! We need your help to carry a baton containing a copy of the Declaration of Independence across the USA.
