Before SHED goes OOO for October, we have one more treat and a little preview of what’s coming in 2027.

SHED School continues with a fresh group of teachers and courses, made possible in part with support from the Ohio Arts Council. SHED School is our free and open-access, teach-anything school, where life practices become critical inquiries.

Most of our new courses will launch in 2027, but first, SHED co-founder Jon Gott is teaching a special course this November as a little birthday present to himself.

All course information is in the slides. Registration is required and space is limited. DM us or email [email protected] to secure your spot.

Thank you to everyone who came out for SHORT CUTS, supported the programming throughout the weekend, showed up for Lilan Yang’s performance at SHED, and joined us for screenings at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque and Capitol Theatre. We are incredibly grateful to all the artists and filmmakers who showed with SHORT CUTS.

If you weren’t able to join us (or want to watch again!) the complete SHORT CUTS program is now available to stream online through Sunday, October 11. We hope you spend some time with these films and enjoy the program as much as we have.

MEET LILAN YANG

Lilan Yang is an LA-based artist working with moving images across installation, film, photography, and performance. Rooted in the materiality of 16mm, their practice explores the flux of migration, the decay of memory and the intricacies of perception.

They’ll perform the first U.S. iteration of Untitled Film Disinfection Project: Performance tonight at SHED. The live 16mm performance begins at 7 PM, with SHED open from 5–9 PM. The evening will also feature an additional installation by Lilan alongside moving-image and photography work by current and former St. Edward High School students.

SHORT CUTS expanded in a meaningful way this year with the Tim Harry Award. This award honors the legacy of lifelong cinephile Tim Harry. Established by his daughter, Helen Harry, the inaugural award provides a cash prize directly to a selected filmmaker in support of their continued practice. We are thrilled to announce that the award goes to Natasha Cantwell for The Teachers’ Sauna.

Natasha Cantwell is a New Zealand artist whose work openly embraces awkwardness and the absurdity of human behaviour. Her practice explores the tension between the visible and the unseen, and the possibility of rebuilding a connection to the natural world from a position of fractured understanding. She draws from the uneasiness of performance art and b-grade horror cinema.

TONIGHT marks the beginning of the end of SHED’s 2026 program year. We honestly cannot believe everything that has happened, been made, shown, shared, performed, researched, and gathered around SHED this year. There has been so much change, so before we close out 2026, we wanted to look back at just some of the people, projects, exhibitions, experiments, and moments that made this year what it was.

But we’re not done quite yet. SHORT CUTS begins TONIGHT at Cleveland Cinematheque with a weekend of experimental film and moving image across Cleveland. We hope you’ll join us for the screenings and especially for Lilan Yang’s live 16mm performance at SHED on Saturday night.

We cannot wait to host Untitled Film Disinfection Project a 30-minute performance-installation by Lilan Yang.

The work explores censorship and information control through the live chemical manipulation of film. Working with image-less Ektachrome, Lilan creates chemical reactions that cause images to form, distort, and disappear as they’re projected in real time-looking at the fragility of film and the instability of what gets recorded, remembered, erased, or survives.
