We’re excited to share even more of Cora Rose Nimtz’s work here in Ohio with Lost Highway, now up at duck-rabbit.

Working from photographs taken throughout the Gulf South, Cora translates the landscapes, roadside moments, strange details, and everyday encounters she documents into thread. Her work pulls from the visual language of the Southern Gothic—where beauty and unease, humor and darkness, familiarity and strangeness can exist right alongside one another.

While Tracing Our Pattern at SHED brings us into Cora’s family histories and inherited traditions of making, Lost Highway lets us follow her gaze outward: into the landscape and the particular weirdness of the South she calls home.

Developed through SHED’s 2024 LAND Open Call, ZAWJ | زوج brought together sculpture, architecture, sound, performance, translation, and exchange in a site-responsive installation built from materials excavated from SHED’s own grounds and foundation.

At its center: a crinkle-crankle wall inspired by Ancient Egyptian architecture, built with two seats positioned for conversation—an architecture for sitting together, listening, and exchange.

SHORT CUTS is back—We’re thrilled to bring our international short film festival to the big screen at BOTH the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque and the Capitol Theatre, bringing SHORT CUTS to both sides of Cleveland, (east side & west side, iykyk).

Thanks to the generosity of our individual and community sponsors [we see you duck-rabbit coffee & C L A S H | V I N T A G E ] both screenings are FREE TO ALL.

And this poster feels especially fitting: designed by a CIA student and designer, featuring the work of a CIA professor. Students, educators, emerging filmmakers, established artists—it’s exactly the kind of overlap SHORT CUTS was built for.

Cora Rose Nimtz’s Threnody for Dream Children, Dogs takes the form of a nine-patch baby quilt, incorporating an appliquéd batik family dog and children’s toys to hold something much more complicated: the hope for children during infertility.

Part of Nimtz’s larger Threnody for Dream Children series, the work sits in conversation with the hand-quilted works of her grandmother, Linda “Mimi” Dyken, throughout our current exhibition Tracing Our Pattern.

Earlier this month, we opened Zawj | زوج—what at first might have felt like a One Piece Viewing was actually an immersive experience years in the making.

Developed by Yasmeen Nematt Alla and Jillian Blackwell, Zawj unfolded across the house and grounds through sculpture, architecture, sound, vibration, translation, exchange, and performance. Material excavated directly from SHED’s grounds and foundation became part of the work itself, rooting the project quite literally in the physical history of the place.

At its center is the crinkle-crankle wall, incorporating two seats in the form of a conversation chair—a structure meant not only to be viewed, but occupied. The work remains accessible during SHED’s regular open hours, and visitors are invited to sit, spend time, and experience it for themselves.

Our website is now updated with documentation from the project, including the outdoor recording of Lullaby, now available to listen to in full.

Lullaby was composed by Mohammad Motevaselan and performed during the opening by harpists Stephan Haluska and Celia van den Bogert.

A deep thank you to everyone who helped bring this layered project into being, and to The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts for supporting SHED and making work like this possible.

Today SHED turns 2 years old as a nonprofit. We’re also going on five years of SHED existing, but really, this has been a lifetime in the making.

Two people met in Ohio, matched each other’s freak and took a chance on building a life together. We found love on the islands (SHED Island School coming soon 👀), created homes in Miami and New Orleans, where SHED was born, and eventually found our way back to Ohio.

But it didn’t really start in New Orleans, or even two years ago with the acknowledgment of our 501(c)(3). For me, it started when I met an artist who fully inspired me to live, trust my instincts, and stick to my convictions. Thank you, Jon. SHED wouldn’t be here without you.

And thanks to everyone who has supported this weird experiment we’re investigating and exploring. We’re happy to be here. We’re still having fun. And as long as it stays fun for our family, we’ll keep doing it.

duck-rabbit is open this weekend, featuring work from CONFLUX, our recent SHED School gathering. Thanks again to everyone who brought work, shared ideas, and participated! The exhibition will remain up through the end of August.

And we’re excited to bring more SHED School to y’all soon.

The thinking behind it continues to be pretty simple: artists know things—and not only the things we recognize them for.

Huge congratulations to all of the artists selected for SHORT CUTS 2026 ❕❕❕

This October, we’re excited to activate Cleveland across both the East and West Sides, bringing SHORT CUTS to the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque and the Capitol Theatre, with additional programming at SHED.

Every film in SHORT CUTS is five minutes or less—but within that shared constraint is an incredible breadth of ideas, approaches, genres, and ways of working. We can’t wait to bring all of these voices together and see just how expansive five minutes (or less!) can become.

Both screenings will be free and open to the entire public. See you at the movies this October.

Come spend some time with what’s on the bed. 🛏️
Cora has selected several special quilts made by her Mimi, Linda “Mimi” Dyken, and laid them out for visitors to discover, spend time with, and look closely at the handwork carried through each one.

Tracing Our Pattern is open today and tomorrow from 12–3 PM and Saturday from 12–5 PM.

We’re back with regular open hours! Come spend some time with Tracing Our Pattern. Come meet Dorothy. Come be nosy, ask what we’re up to, catch up, and see what’s new at SHED.

We think of our open hours a little like office hours—a chance to spend time with the work, but also to be in conversation. We love talking with artists (and everyone else) about art, ideas, works in progress, questions, and whatever you’ve got going on.

Thursday + Friday: 12–3 PM
Saturday: 12–5 PM
And always open by appointment.
