We’ll be at Pet Supplies Plus in Chardon on Sunday, August 30th from 11 AM to 2 PM!

Come out and meet Tallulah, Matzo Ball, Seymour, Muck, Mud, Toast and Katy, plus a special appearance by Jace.

We do not do on-site adoptions, but we will be taking applications and talking with anyone interested in adopting.

Stop by, meet some dogs, bring a friend and come spend a little time with us.

Poptart update! ❤️

Our little bridge troll had another surgery on her eyes yesterday. Poptart had a pretty gnarly case of entropion, which means her eyelids were rolling inward and causing her eyelashes and hair to rub against her eyes. It’s painful and irritating, so we’re glad to finally have that fixed for her.

She’s back in her foster home recovering and doing great! Considering everything this girl has been through in such a short amount of time, she continues to take it all in stride.

Our little bridge troll has come a long way from being found under a bridge in Wickliffe. She’s loving life with her foster family, getting spoiled, and learning what it feels like to actually be cared for.

She’s sweet, goofy, and seems pretty damn happy with her new life.

Not bad for a little bridge troll. ❤️

Well… meet our newest little problem child.

Meet Apple. 🍎

Apple came to us this morning from the Holmes County Dog Warden, and we have to give them a huge shoutout. They drove two hours to bring this puppy to us because they wanted to make sure Apple ended up in the right hands.

They are truly one of the best shelters we work with. They go above and beyond for their animals, even if that means loading one up and driving two hours to get them where they need to be. This is how rescues and shelters are supposed to work together for the dogs.

Now, about Apple…

We’re guessing some type of doodle mix because, well… look at that hair.

Apple also has a broken leg that will most likely need surgical repair with a plate. We’re waiting to hear from Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital so we can figure out exactly what needs to be done.

And here’s the fun part.

We don’t actually know if Apple is a girl or a boy. Apple appears to possibly be intersex, so there’s a little more investigating to do.

Which is exactly how the name Apple happened. Apples are fruit. They aren’t boys. They aren’t girls. They’re just apples. 😂🍎

So for right now, is Apple a girl? A boy? A little bit of both?

We have no freaking idea.

But Apple is Apple, and we’ll get the broken leg fixed and figure out the rest along the way.

Meet our two newest faces who joined the rescue yesterday: Tallulah and Matzo Ball!

Tallulah is our little 4-month-old Rottweiler puppy. She was either born with a defect in her spine or suffered an injury very early in life. Her spine is crimped, but thankfully her spinal cord is completely intact. It doesn’t cause her any pain, she just has a little bit of a funny walk. Long-term, we don’t expect it to cause her any major issues.

Then there’s Matzo Ball, our tiny 4-year-old Shih Tzu girl. She is incredibly sweet and seems pretty happy about this whole “living in a house” thing. Matzo Ball is definitely going to need a dental, and we’ll be getting her all fixed up.

Both girls came from high-volume breeder/puppy mill situations, so this is a whole new life for them. They’re settling into their foster home with Jen Ersek while we get to know them and figure out exactly what each of them needs.

For now, they’re safe, they’re inside, and they’re officially part of the One At A Time family.

We’ll have plenty more to share about Tallulah and Matzo Ball as their personalities start coming out!

Meet Muck! ❤️

Obviously, we already introduced you to Dirt and Mud, so now it’s time to meet their brother, Muck!

When Muck first got to his foster home, he was scared and shaky and wasn’t quite sure about any of it. That didn’t last long. Once he realized he was safe, his personality came right out.

Muck is a fun, outgoing, talkative little guy. He definitely lets his foster mom know when breakfast is taking too long, and if she’s working at her desk and he wants some attention, he’ll tell her that too.

He loves playing with his foster brother Cinder and runs the dirt bike track with him every morning. He even went to Cleveland last weekend, rode around on a skateboard, hung out in a backpack and made a bunch of new friends. He seems to be a pretty adaptable little puppy who is happy to tag along for whatever you’re doing.

After all that playing, he is a BIG snuggler. He sleeps like a rock and likes to be as close to his foster mom as possible, usually curled up against her head or neck.

Most importantly, Muck is gaining weight and doing really well. It’s pretty amazing to see how quickly this scared little puppy has started coming out of his shell.

Muck gets neutered on Tuesday and will be available for adoption after that, but we are accepting applications now!

Applicants must live within a one-hour driving distance of Cleveland, Ohio. A completed and approved application is required before an in-home meet and greet.

Muck is a sweet, social, playful puppy with plenty of personality, and we think somebody is going to have a whole lot of fun watching this little guy grow up.

Toast is ADOPTABLE! 🍞

Our little Toast is officially ready to find his forever home!

Toast is a 13-week-old Cattle Dog/American Eskimo mix. He was neutered last week, is recovering great, and is already back to his regularly scheduled puppy nonsense.

He is smart, active, playful and LOVES other dogs. His foster mom has been working hard with him and he’s already learning all kinds of tricks. He is very food motivated, loves to learn and would do best with someone who wants to keep that busy little brain working.

We would really love to see Toast go to a home with another playful dog who wants to run, wrestle and keep up with him. He is a rough-and-tumble puppy, so an older or more selective dog probably isn’t going to appreciate his constant invitations to play.

And remember his breed mix. Cattle Dog + American Eskimo = smart, active and BUSY. He’s not going to be happy being a couch potato. He needs exercise, training, structure and adventures. A fenced yard is required because his puppy recall is still very much a work in progress.

Toast is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed and on monthly preventatives. His adoption fee is $350.

Adopters must live within one hour of Chardon, Ohio, and a completed and approved application is required before an in-home meet and greet.

Hi. Mud here.

I’ve officially been here for two weeks, and I’ve learned a lot.

I LOVE my house. That’s what my foster mom calls my crate, and I figured out pretty quickly that all the good stuff happens in there. Food, stuffed Kongs, cookies… all the important things. Now when I see her putting her shoes on, I go running to my house because I know something good is coming.

At night, though, I sleep in the big bed cuddled right next to my foster mom. I don’t move ALL night. Apparently I’m a very good sleeping buddy.

I love my foster dog siblings, toys, being outside and pretty much every person I meet. I even get to hang out with an eight-year-old regularly and I think kids are pretty great.

Potty training? Ehhh. We’re working on it. I go every time I’m taken outside, but I haven’t quite figured out how to tell the humans when I need to go yet. I’m a puppy. I’ll get there.

I’ll be neutered at the end of the month, and then I’m going to be looking for my very own home.

I heard the rescue people talking about something called Black Dog Syndrome. Apparently black dogs tend to get overlooked and wait longer to get picked.

Then someone informed me that I am a black dog.

Well, s**t.

I hope I don’t get that syndrome. I really like people, dogs, kids, cuddling and sleeping in the big bed. I feel like I have a pretty solid résumé.

So when it’s my turn, maybe don’t scroll past the black puppy, okay?

Well, apparently I got neutered today.

Nobody bothered to explain what that meant beforehand, and I can tell you right now… I did not love it. 😂 Thankfully, my doctor felt bad for me and gave me some post surgery snuggles while I recovered. I deserved them.

Anyway, now that THAT is out of the way, I guess I’m officially looking for my forever home!

My name is Toast and I’m about 13 weeks old, a Cattle Dog and American Eskimo mix. That means I’m cute, super smart, busy, and always thinking about something I probably should not be doing.

My Foster Mom has been working very hard with me and teaching me tricks, and I’m learning so much! I already know sit, down, and roll over, and I’m working on even more. I love learning, I’m very food motivated, and I take treats gently. I’m also learning crate training. I sleep in my crate at night, usually wake up once to potty, and I’ll let you know when I need to go out. I keep my crate clean too.

I’m a typical puppy. Not fully potty trained yet, fingers and toes are sometimes snacks, and my manners are still a work in progress. I love people, kids, and other dogs, but I play HARD, so little kids might get knocked over by accident. I mean no harm, just enthusiasm.

I would love a home with another playful dog who actually wants to wrestle and run. A dog who prefers peace and quiet might not enjoy my constant “WANNA PLAY?” energy.

Because I’m part Cattle Dog, I need more than just someone who thinks I’m cute. I need structure, training, and a job for my busy brain. Basic obedience classes would be great for me.

I am not a couch potato. I need activity, adventure, and a fenced yard because my recall is still a work in progress and I like to explore.

If you want a smart, active, adventurous puppy and you’re ready to help me grow into an awesome dog, I might be your guy.
