The Salvation Army is committed to "doing the most good" for the most people in the most need.

The nation's largest faith-based charity, The Salvation Army serves 30 million people each year through a broad array of social services. The Salvation Army, an evangelical part of the universal Christian church established in 1865, has been supporting those in need in His name without discrimination for more than 130 years in the United States. Nearly 30 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through the broadest array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. 82 cents of every dollar spent is used to carry out those services in 5,000 communities nationwide.

October 17 is World Poverty Day.

Today we recognize the millions of people around the world who are struggling to meet their basic needs — and we reaffirm our commitment to serve with compassion, dignity, and hope. The Salvation Army cannot do this work alone. If you’re able, please consider supporting our efforts to fight poverty and uplift families in need: https://tinyurl.com/3uvu7tm4.

The bell isn’t the tradition — you are. For more than a century, the sound of the Red Kettle has only mattered because someone chose to stand beside it. The real tradition is the kindness, the smile, the warm “Merry Christmas” that volunteers bring to every shift.

When you ring the bell, you’re not just keeping a tradition alive — you’re helping families find hope during the holidays.
