Yes4ACL Vote YES this November for the Asotin County Library. Because your library does more than just check out books!

The library‘s funding comes almost entirely from property taxes. Due to a 2001 state law, the amount received by local entities (fire district, schools, libraries, etc.) can only increase by 1% per year - even if property values increase at a higher rate. This limit, the levy lid, means that as total property valuation increases the levy rate actually decreases. The end result is that funding has

not kept pace with increasing costs at the library. This ballot measure is considered a levy lid lift, requesting that the 1% limit be raised for one year after which the 1% lid would again be in effect.

What does $2.46 a month support?

• Culturally rich environment of art and music (check out our Creation Space!) You can borrow ukuleles and even join the ukulele group that practices in the library. The glow forge (a 3D printer) is available and there are classes periodically to learn to use!

• Children’s crafts and summer reading kids...Christmas crafts is a huge hit every year! And a teen area with programs and board game events..

• Book clubs & author visits

• Printing/copying & Free Wi-Fi and fax - for financial docs....who has one of those anymore?!

• Access to newspapers & periodicals

• Online classes for free, genealogy research, study rooms & digital tech help (the library maintains and adds to the Heritage Collection - a collection of local pictures documenting the history of the area and families)

• A meeting space for community groups.

The levy rate is shrinking. Keep your library whole. Vote YES to restore the 50¢ rate.

Your boss gives you a raise: 50¢/hour.

Then says, “from here on out, your 50 cent raise can only increase 1% more based on that that 50 cents.”

Your expenses increase a lot more than that 1% every year so the buying power of your original 50 cent raise is eroded and now closer to 40 cents.

That’s what happened to library funding.

A YES for ACL vote brings it back to what voters approved in 2009.
