Welcome Home, Pfc. Norcross: An 81-Year Journey Back to New Hampshire 🇺🇸🌲

After more than eight decades, a young hero from Manchester is finally returning home.

The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) recently announced that the remains of U.S. Marine Corps Pfc. Edgar R. Norcross have been officially identified. Pfc. Norcross was just 18 years old when he was killed in action during World War II.

On March 16, 1945, Norcross was serving as a radio gunner on a TBM-3 Avenger aircraft with the Marine Torpedo Bombing Squadron 232. During a bombing attack over Yap Island in the western Pacific, his aircraft crashed. For decades, his remains were declared non-recoverable, and his name was engraved on the Tablets of the Missing in Manila.

Thanks to modern science—including mitochondrial DNA, anthropological, and radioisotope analysis—this Granite State Marine has been found. True to the military’s sacred promise to "never leave a fallen comrade behind," he is coming home.
