Zetas of Christiansburg, VA

Zetas of Christiansburg, VA First class in the New River Valley community and beyond.

Founded January 16, 1920, Zeta began as an idea conceived by five coeds at Howard University in Washington D.C.: Arizona Cleaver, Myrtle Tyler, Viola Tyler, Fannie Pettie and Pearl Neal. These five women, also known as our Five Pearls, dared to depart from the traditional coalitions for black women and sought to establish a new organization predicated on the precepts of Scholarship, Service, Siste

rly Love and Finer Womanhood. It was the ideal of the Founders that the Sorority would reach college women in all parts of the country who were sorority minded and desired to follow the founding principles of the organization. Founder Viola Tyler was oft quoted to say "[In the ideal collegiate situation] there is a Zeta in a girl regardless of race, creed, or color, who has high standards and principles, a good scholarly average and an active interest in all things that she undertakes to accomplish."

As Pride Month begins, we proudly uplift the voices of the LGBTQIA+ community and reaffirm our support for equality, dignity, and love for all. We believe everyone has the right to love who they love, every day of the year.

This reminds us that love knows no boundaries. It calls us to honor every individual’s right to be treated with kindness and respect, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Since 1920, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated has been committed to addressing the pressing issues of each era. For more than 106 years, we have stood as a voice for the underserved and a champion for marginalized communities.

This month and beyond, we commit to listening, learning, and leaning in. We invite you to join us in growing as allies, promoting inclusion, and celebrating the strength and brilliance of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, Omega Chi Zeta Chapter “Lights it Up Blue” to increase understanding and acceptance of individuals who have an autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
Here are 5 facts about ASD.

Approximately 1 in 36 children is diagnosed with an autism
spectrum disorder; boys are four times more likely to be diagnosed than girls. Every child with ASD has different skills, challenges, and needs. ASD affects children of all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups. There is no “cure” for ASD, but there are several interventions that can help children learn important skills that improve everyday life. Research has shown that a diagnosis of autism at age two can be reliable, valid, and stable.

The vast diversity of the autism spectrum represents the unique experiences of individuals and families navigating this journey. We thrive on creating environments where those with autism receive the support, opportunities, and connections they deserve.
Today, we will for individuals with autism so that they can continue to be themselves authentically — without limitations. It’s up to us to ensure they are seen, heard, and celebrated.

On National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated reaffirms its commitment to education, advocacy, and community empowerment surrounding HIV/AIDS, particularly as it impacts women and families in black communities.

While progress for treatment and cures continue, systemic barriers such as racism, discrimination, and mistrust in healthcare also continue to limit access to prevention, testing, and treatment services in our communities. Guided by the Power of S.H.E., Zeta remains unwavering in its commitment to dismantling stigma, correcting misinformation, and advancing health equity in our communities.

Sisters, this work requires each of us to share trusted information and resources, host educational forums and clinics, engage in honest conversations with our youth, and meet people where they are with compassion and care.

When we use our voices, platforms, and presence, we become catalysts for change. It has always been our collective charge to continue standing as champions for health equity, and serving with impact across all communities.
