The classroom was full, the demonstrations were hands-on, and the energy was high!

CHP Energy Solutions recently hosted our annual Builders Boot Camp, welcoming nearly 50 building science and energy efficiency professionals from across the region for two days of intensive learning and collaboration.

Students traveled from five states, while expert instructors came from across the country to share the latest best practices in dense-pack insulation, diagnostic technology, multifamily ventilation, and HVAC performance verification. The result? A packed agenda of real-world solutions that participants can take back to their communities and apply immediately.

For more than 25 years, CHP's nationally recognized Training Center has helped advance the building science industry by equipping professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to create healthier, safer, and more energy-efficient homes. We're proud to continue that mission through events like Builders Boot Camp.

Last month, CHP Energy Solutions was proud to join weatherization professionals from across the Commonwealth at the annual Virginia Weatherization Interchange in Virginia Beach.

Hosted in partnership with the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), this event brings together technicians, energy auditors, program administrators, and industry experts to share best practices, learn about evolving energy efficiency standards, and strengthen Virginia's weatherization network.

CHP Energy Solutions is honored to collaborate with our peers as we continue our shared mission of helping energy burdened households reduce energy costs, improve comfort, and create safer, healthier homes.

Strong community partnerships help connect more families with the resources they need, and we're grateful to organizations like Renew Rocktown for creating opportunities to bring energy efficiency education directly into the communities they serve.

Recently, CHP Energy Solutions was proud to participate in a Home Energy Savings Day in Harrisonburg hosted by Renew Rocktown in partnership with the Shenandoah Valley Black Heritage Project. The event brought together local residents for a day of energy-saving education, family activities, and information about programs that can help make homes more comfortable, healthy, and affordable.

Representing CHP Energy Solutions was Josh, one of our Energy Auditors, who volunteered his personal time on a Saturday to demonstrate the equipment used during professional home energy audits, including a blower door, manometer, and infrared camera. Throughout the day, Josh helped attendees learn how energy audits work and how simple improvements can lead to lower energy bills and greater home comfort.

We're incredibly thankful for partners like Renew Rocktown, whose commitment to community outreach helps connect residents with valuable resources, and for team members like Josh, who willingly give their time and expertise to support these efforts. Together, we're helping build stronger, more energy-efficient communities across the Shenandoah Valley.

This week, we're celebrating Phil Hull as he retires after 16 years with CHP Energy Solutions.

From starting as a trainer in 2010 to leading our Research and Training Center for the past 12 years, Phil has played a major role in shaping the next generation of weatherization and energy efficiency professionals. His passion for building science, commitment to quality training, and willingness to mentor others have impacted tens of thousands of students and countless industry professionals.

His recent Energy OutWest President's Award is just one example of the respect he has earned throughout the industry. While we'll certainly miss Phil's leadership and expertise, we're excited for him as he pursues lifelong interests and enjoys this next chapter.

Thank you, Phil, for all you've done for CHP, our partners, and the communities we serve.

We’re proud to have been part of this EnergyShare project helping a Norfolk Navy veteran and his family get the long-awaited home improvements they needed. Thanks to our partners at Dominion Energy and the Cousinz Festival for helping make this possible.

Happy Earth Day!

At CHP Energy Solutions, we strive every day to make homes more energy efficient and more comfortable through our no-cost programs. In doing this, we are having a positive impact on our planet and our communities. In 2025, we saved 2,000,000 kilowatt hours across 4,600 homes. That’s equivalent to taking 313 gasoline-powered passenger vehicles off the road!

Today, let’s take time to reflect on the small ways we can act in our homes, for our planet through energy efficiency. One home at a time, we can make a difference.

🌍 Making Housing Poverty Visible Through Building Science

We’re proud to celebrate an incredible honor for our partners at Weatherizers Without Borders (WWB), who are hosting an interactive exhibit at the MIT Museum, in collaboration with MIT D‑Lab.

Led by Nick Maggio (WWB) and Anthony Cox (CHP Energy Solutions), the exhibit shines a powerful light on what housing and energy poverty truly mean and how building science can help us measure, understand, and reduce it.

📍 MIT Museum
314 Main Street, Cambridge, MA
📅 April 15, 2026
⏰ 3:00–6:00 PM

Visitors will experience firsthand how substandard housing contributes to increased carbon emissions and diminished health, safety, and quality of life. Using a full suite of building science diagnostic tools, the exhibit makes the invisible visible, demonstrating how whole‑home performance connects housing poverty, energy burden, and climate impacts for nearly one‑third of the world’s population.

👏 Congratulations to WWB, MIT D‑Lab, and everyone involved in bringing this critical work to life.
