Prayers for the Carroll County Sheriffs office as the mourn the ultimate sacrifice of one of their deputies and they search for the murderer

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

At approximately 9:26 p.m., the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office received a request from a family member to conduct a welfare check at 13658 Fancy Gap Highway.

Carroll County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the residence. Upon arrival, two deputies made contact with a male subject identified as Michael Puckett. During the encounter, Puckett opened fire on the responding deputies. Deputies returned fire.

Both deputies were struck by gunfire. One deputy sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. The second deputy was struck in his ballistic vest and is currently receiving medical evaluation and is reported to be in stable condition.

Michael Puckett fled the scene and remains at large. A coordinated law enforcement search is currently underway.

Puckett should be considered armed and extremely dangerous. Anyone who sees him or has information regarding his whereabouts is urged not to approach him and to immediately call 911.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Our is our current President Diana Jones-Cox

Diana became a member of the Citizens Support Group about 3 years ago, she was looking for something to do as she stepped out of a full time job into retirement. She always felt close to Law Enforcement since she had worked as a dispatcher from 1988 until 1996. The call of the Blue Line Family was always there as she worked different jobs outside of Law Enforcement.

Since she has been with our group she has served as the secretary and the president since November 2024.

She enjoys being there for CPD and has enjoyed meeting and working with so many new people.

You will find Diana at most of our events helping to fundraise, and recruit new members, in addition to spreading awareness about the group.

This morning’s breakfast was an assortment of pastries, donuts (of course), and sausage, egg, and cheddar muffins (made by our President Diana).

Lunch and Dinner today is supplied by the CPDCSG. Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, potato salad, chips, baked beans, hot dog chili, and sourdough chocolate chip cookie bars and sourdough butterscotch cookie bars (also made by Diana),

Today is the last day of National Police Week but be sure to thank our officers every day for doing a job many wouldn’t even try. They put their lives on the line every day.

Dinner for our officers tonight was donated by . We are close to wrapping up . One more day, thanks to all of the great support from local restaurants. Also a big thanks to all the for helping to pick up and deliver all these meals.
