This is what progress looks like. 🥹☀️

Sunny Sunshine came to us incredibly sick, and there have been some very scary days with this little girl. Today, she decided she was ready to eat on her own.

Was she particularly graceful about it? Absolutely not. 😂

Did she wear approximately half of her dinner? Yes.

Did we care? Not even a little bit.

Seeing her standing at that bowl, eating with that much enthusiasm, felt like the biggest victory in the world.

Keep going, Sunny Sunshine. ❤️

You know you’ve made it when your questionable vacation decisions end up in The Dodo. 😂🐧

We’re still slightly amazed by how many people have fallen in love with this story, but we’re especially grateful that all of this attention has helped introduce so many more people to the incredible work being done by the Puffin Rescue in Iceland.

Also, The Dodo officially documented that two people who care for around 100 rescue animals were “hilariously unprepared for one extremely small Icelandic bird,” so that feels like an important professional accomplishment. 😂

Read the story here:

What a wild adventure.

This is one of the harder parts of rescue to share, but it’s also part of the reality of what we do.

Almost as soon as we returned from Iceland, two mama cats and their eight kittens arrived at Fabled Farm, and every one of them was sick. One litter was around 4½ weeks old, while the other babies were only about 2½ weeks. They came to us with severe upper respiratory symptoms—gunky, painful eyes, constant sneezing, lethargy and poor appetites. The youngest kittens needed bottle feeding in addition to the round-the-clock supportive care everyone was receiving.

Since August 21, much of our world has revolved around these ten little lives. Medications, cleaning eyes and noses, feeding, monitoring, laundry, and checking on them over and over again throughout the day and night.

Sadly, despite everything, we lost one kitten from each litter. 💔 Those are the losses that make rescue incredibly hard, and we never want to gloss over them. They mattered, they were cared for, and they were loved during the time they were with us.

But there is good news, too. The remaining kittens and their moms have been fighting hard, and we’re continuing to fight right alongside them. ❤️

Sometimes rescue is happy adoption photos and healthy babies. Sometimes it looks like this. Both are part of saying yes when animals need us most.

Apparently we weren’t the only ones having adventures while we were on vacation. 😂🐣

One of our Silkie hens managed to hide an egg well enough that nobody found it…and we came home to a surprise baby chick!

The best part? Maude, our Naked Neck hen, has decided this is HER baby. We have no idea who the biological mama is, and Maude would like everyone to know that information is completely irrelevant. 😂❤️

🔨🐐 We need a few extra hands at the farm!

This Saturday, we’re getting to work on Poppy & Posie’s brand-new special needs area, and we’d love some help bringing it to life!

We’ll be installing fencing, painting the barn, building their playground, and tackling the projects needed to create a space where Poppy can safely live and play alongside Posie and the other baby goats. 💛

🐾 COURTESY POST — Meet Hitch! 🐾
📍 Located in East Tennessee

Just look at this handsome guy! ❤️ Hitch is a 4-year-old Great Pyrenees looking for a new home through no fault of his own.

Hitch is very loved by his current family, but unfortunately, the older resident dog has decided he does not want to be Hitch’s friend. His family is hoping to find him a wonderful new home where he can get all the love and cuddles he deserves.

Hitch is:
🐶 Good with other dogs
👧 Good with kids
🏡 House trained
🦴 Crate trained
✂️ Neutered
💉 Healthy and up to date on veterinary care
❤️ A BIG cuddle bug who loves being with his people

He’s basically a giant fluffy best friend looking for his next couch. 🥰

❌ No cats or chickens please

Please note: Hitch is NOT a Fabled Farm Rescue animal. We are sharing him as a courtesy to help his family find the right home. He is currently located in East Tennessee.

There are very few rules in Charley’s world. The main one is that if it’s happening anywhere on the farm, he needs to be involved. 😂🐐

Fencing project? His business.
Feeding animals? His business.
Unloading supplies? His business.
Trying to accomplish literally anything without a goat directly underfoot? Absolutely his business.

Assistant Farm Manager is a self-appointed position.

Turns out our puffin rescue story actually started a few hours earlier… 🐧🇮🇸

Before we went wandering around at midnight looking for pufflings, we visited the Beluga Whale Sanctuary & Puffin Rescue — where we learned about the Puffling Patrol in the first place.

We also bought a little wooden puffin from the sweetest man named Örn.

A few hours later, we found a real one. 🥹Maybe that wooden puffin was trying to tell us something. 😂📦🐧

Please go follow and support the incredible people at the Beluga Whale Sanctuary & Puffin Rescue who do this work. ❤️ SEA LIFE TRUST Beluga Whale Sanctuary

Apparently rescuing one tiny puffling left you guys with a few questions. 😂🐧📦

How did we know to go looking? Why were we the ONLY people out there? And, most importantly…Why didn’t we bring a box?! 😂

For everyone who found us because of one little Icelandic puffling—welcome to Fabled Farm.

❤️

We found him at midnight. By sunrise, it was time to say goodbye. 🥹🐧

We carried our little puffling up the cliffs, surrounded by hundreds of puffins, and gave him one more chance to spread those wings. And then… I let him go. ❤️

We watched him fly and eventually land near other pufflings below. Hopefully, our tiny Icelandic rescue is exactly where he belongs now. 🇮🇸

I held it together really well, as you’ll see. 😂😭

What an absolutely surreal experience.
