More than 30 years ago, the UN took an important step in promoting the idea that everyone deserves a decent place to live by declaring the first Monday in October as World Habitat Day.

Everyone deserves to build the foundation for a stable, healthy future for themselves and their families —no matter who they are, where they live or how much money they earn. 🌎❤️

On , Habitat for Humanity across Chicagoland and greater Illinois joins with organizations around the world to help make everyone aware of the growing challenge of affordable housing, and to help fulfill our mission of bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

50 years of building together!

On this date in 1976, Habitat for Humanity was founded in Americus, Georgia. Fifty years in, thanks to millions of volunteers, advocates and supporters like you, we have grown into a global movement and helped more than 65 million people build or improve their homes.

Catherine has taken great pride in caring for her home for many years. After losing her husband, she now lives alone and manages on half of his pension along with Social Security. While she has always handled routine maintenance herself, a few aging issues in the home required repairs that were beyond what she felt comfortable addressing on her own.

With help from Will-Grundy Habitat for Humanity, Catherine received several critical repairs, including a new bathtub and tile, plumbing updates, electrical improvements, and a new bedroom window. These updates mean she can continue living safely and comfortably in the home she loves.

Thanks to funding from Wesco International and other generous donors, homeowners like Catherine can remain safely in their homes for years to come. Wesco proudly serves as the inaugural sponsor of the Regional Repair Collaboration in Chicagoland, helping bring essential repairs to homeowners across the region. ❤️

🏡 For 22 years, Navy veteran Brian—who served aboard the USS David R. Ray—has taken pride in caring for the home he loves. But aging windows, failing siding, and an outdated HVAC system began to create uncertainty about what might break next.

“I just wanted to know my home was safe and protected,” Brian shared.

Thanks to support from Lake-McHenry Habitat for Humanity and funding from Wesco, Brian’s home now has new energy-efficient windows and siding, along with critical furnace and electrical updates. The improvements mean a safer, more comfortable home—and peace of mind for the years ahead.

Brian continues to give back every day through his work with Veterans Path to Hope, providing peer support, managing the food pantry, organizing community dinners, and helping fellow veterans in need.

Now, with major repairs behind him, Brian can focus on what matters most: supporting others and enjoying the home he’s cared for more than two decades. 🏡❤️

A big thank you to Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley for welcoming our board members and staff to the Green Freedom build site in Aurora on September 12th! 🏠🔨❤️

There’s something special about getting out of the office, getting our hands dirty and working side-by-side to help build a home for a local family. We’re grateful for the opportunity to spend the day with the Northern Fox Valley team and see firsthand the impact of Habitat’s work in the community.

We’re proud to build together — and even prouder to be part of a movement helping families achieve strength, stability and self-reliance through homeownership. 🏡
